About Series A Program, Venture Success

This Program works closely with high-impact, growth-oriented ventures at the Series A stage looking to commercialize their breakthrough technology innovations. Services include access to guidance from a global community of seasoned executives and senior advisors equipped with unique diagnostic tools and data-driven insights, curated connections to investors and corporate partners, access to customized workshops and peer-led learning and networking opportunities.

About the role

The Client Engagement Manager manages the full cycle of engagement between MaRS and companies admitted to the Series A program. The Client Engagement Manager engages with the startup founders, MaRS Senior Advisors,Executives-in-Residence, Program Director, and other MaRS resources to create and implement unique plans to meet venture growth goals. The Client Engagement Manager is responsible for key aspects of venture portfolio management including intake and onboarding, reporting, portfolio analysis, venture communications and off-boarding. The Client Engagement Manager supports diverse strategic projects as needed and acts as an advocate for high-growth Series A startups and MaRS in the community. They are responsible for providing leadership, prioritization and approval to all other MaRS departments who want to engage with our ventures (including timing, which contacts at the startup companies, and how to make the ask for optimal response).

KeyResponsibilities

  • Client Engagement
    • Act as the lead day-to-day relationship manager between MaRS and ventures admitted to the program, creating and driving unique growth plans in collaboration with Senior Advisors, Executives-in-Residence, and Program Director to increase the venture’s odds of success.
    • Assess client requirements, prioritize and enable access to select programs resources, in collaboration with the Venture Success team, to ensure our value equation remains high and the program meets individual company/executive needs
    • Manage the flow of information to and from the Series A program exercising judgment and applying portfolio knowledge in assessing internal and external venture-related requests, and providing appropriate access to maintain superior client experience

  • Programs and Process
    • Design and implement engagement processes and feedback loops which support a high-value client experience
    • Share key insights related to ventures’ business, markets and experience with MaRS Communications, Capital and Ecosystems, Learning Solutions, and other internal teams to create new content which supports venture development and MaRS’ brand position
    • Oversee key Momentum operations including venture and portfolio data collection and reporting in order to satisfy funder requirements and ensure success metrics are being met
    • Manage the program application process including all communication and data gathering.
    • Provide client voice and support decision-making into company and portfolio assessment processes to maintain high quality bar for participants and ensure progression towards outcomes
    • Establish and maintain influential relationships with venture teams, MaRS staff, community and industry associations, government officials and other innovation centres
    • Create new and improve existing tactics to improve client experience at MaRS
    • Consistently seek to improve the way that venture and program information is captured and shared by understanding the requirements of key stakeholders from both within and outside of MaRS and designing processes that meet or exceed these requirements.
    • Contribute to innovation in MaRS products and programming by communicating venture perspective and needs across the organization

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in client-facing roles
  • Experience working with startups or in fast-paced environments an asset
  • Knowledge of key challenge and opportunities for high-growth companies an asset
  • Understanding the applications of key technologies including blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics an asset
  • Highly proficient communication skills – oral, written and presentation skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated relationship management ability (collaborator and convenor)
  • Leadership skills and demonstrated ability to influence colleagues and stakeholders to achieve results
  • Ability to multitask to meet the demands of a fast-paced, high-energy environment without compromising quality and attention to detail
  • Highly-developed organizational and process management skills
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and analytical approach with the ability to understand and synthesize complex concepts into clear and compelling presentations
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, an asset
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRMs, an asset
