Web3 Senior Manager of Tax Operations

Location: NY New York City, New York, United States

Chainalysis’ tax professionals are increasingly facing commercial and tax issues arising from our global operations. To date, their primary role has been to team with sales, product, and other technical personnel in developing tax use cases for Chainalysis’ products for revenue authorities throughout the world. Our tax compliance function is largely outsourced to a large accounting firm.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Manager of Tax Operations & Strategy would –

  • Liaise with our external tax services provider to ensure that our direct and indirect tax compliance obligations are satisfied in all relevant countries
  • Team with our tax strategy, finance, and accounting personnel to implement opportunities to enhance the tax position of our company
  • Aid in / oversee completion of the worldwide tax provision as it relates to Chainalysis’ financial statements under U.S. GAAP
  • Execute and improve tax processes and controls
  • Work with external financial auditors on tax reporting matters
  • In the event of any audits by tax authorities, support the audit process and respond to any information requests
  • Assist with identification, development, and implementation of strategic tax planning for Chainalysis and elevate issues / opportunities to the senior members of the tax strategy team
  • Research tax technical issues related to various U.S. and international tax matters
  • Team with the internal treasury and accounting stakeholders to optimize (from a tax perspective) the deployment and repatriation of cash
  • Administer transfer pricing policies
  • Advise on tax consequences of M&A transactions and the integration of businesses
  • To the extent relevant in the future, aid in preparation of documents required for reporting by public companies
  • Team with the tax strategy and training teams to advance the tax use cases of Chainalysis products. This can include training customers, generating ideas for new functionality, advising technical personnel on feature / capability development
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers within the business
  • Work with and manage consultants as needed

Job Requirements

  • Tax attorney and/or CPA with approximately 5 - 8 years of relevant tax experience at accounting firm, law firm, or a company
  • Experience with the preparation and/or review of federal income tax returns
  • Experience with U.S. federal income tax reporting, U.S. indirect taxes, U.S. tax rules involving net operating losses, Subpart F, foreign tax credits, GILTI, and FDII, and non-US tax matters (local income taxes, sales & use taxes, VAT, GST, etc.),
  • Experience with transfer pricing
  • Experience working in teams and collaborating across different business and professional disciplines
  • Speaking and communication skills that will assist with explaining complex tax concepts to non-tax members of the finance, business, and operations teams
  • Strong interest the intersection of crypto and tax along with the desire to contribute Chainalysis’ goal of building trust in blockchains
