Web3 Head of People (Remote-First)

Compensation: $63k - $90k *

Location: NY New York US

Metatheory Inc. is a technology-driven entertainment company building Web3 games, interactive multi-platform stories, and virtual world experiences imagined across innovative collective story franchise IPs. We are a remote first dynamic team of builders, developers, and entrepreneurs including several key founding members of Twitch along with multiple Emmy and Peabody winning producers and storytellers.
Our flagship IP is DuskBreakers, an eccentric, interactive sci fi saga set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious alien ship (The Dusk) becomes a beacon of hope for humanity. The franchise spans games, animated content, NFTs, and other media formats.
We’re seeking an experienced Head of People with prior working knowledge of US employment laws and practices (with international experience required). Flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is a must. We are building a unique experience and want to be positive thought leaders in the Web3 gaming space. The Head of People position reports directly to the COO, Adam Bao, and will be responsible for all HR related functions.
Specific Duties Include:

  • Building strong and productive working relationships with all members of the leadership team, acting as a partner to ensure progress on each aspect of our strategic vision
  • Partnering with the leadership executive team to develop our organizational design and to build, maintain and support our culture
  • Building a performance management process
  • Constructing and administering a compensation philosophy
  • Developing and managing our benefits program
  • Overseeing and managing a recruiting strategy, which supports Metatheory’s growth
  • Providing guidance regarding domestic and international employment laws
  • Driving the employee onboarding and orientation process
  • Providing employees and managers with advice and counsel on employee relations issues
  • Ongoing coaching and counsel to managers
  • Managing employee relations and investigations within the organization
  • Developing and managing processes to promote team building
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and triage tasks
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems; Lever, AngelList Curated, LinkedIn Recruiter, etc
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum eight years in a People or HR management role, including experience managing both People Ops and Recruiting
  • Five or more years in a management position
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or related field preferred
  • Proven track record of working with and managing remote workforces
  • Successful track record as Head of People of a rapidly scaling/early-stage business
  • Demonstrable experience leading and managing a people team

Candidates should be comfortable working in a remote, fast-paced, fluid, and ever-changing startup environment. We are currently remote first and will always embrace work from home culture, although we may have some more offices in the future. Candidates should be excited about the future potential of blockchain, but no prior experience is required.
