Right out of high school I began working as a computer repair technician, traveling from home to home and business to business doing on-site repair and troubleshooting. After a few years--but while I was still working--I decided I wanted to do something else so I went back to school and studied political science. I landed a job working for MoveOn during the 2008 presidential campaign. After that I took a job working as a legal assistant for a bankruptcy trustee and was there for 6 years as we worked through thousands of cases which were the result of the 2009 recession. I learned a lot about bankruptcy, finance, and the Federal court systems.

Once the number of bankruptcy cases began to subside I had to find work elsewhere. Currently I work as a compliance officer for an auto finance company, and I am also the department head for the IT team. Much of my work consists of writing formal documents; correspondence with customers, regulators, and government entities (such as licensing bodies), as well as writing and maintaining inner-company policy guidelines and manuals. I also maintain our servers and proprietary software and have written scripts to make our workflow more efficient. But I am back in school learning front-end development with javascript, react and jQuery. I will complete the certificate program around the second week of February. I plan to continue learning and pick up other certificates and training even as I move into working as a full-time programmer or front-end developer.
