Experience
Optical Design Engineer
ASML Holding N.V. 2023 - 2023
Assisted in qualification and calibration of the main EUV lithography scanner component. Developed and delivered the prototype of a hardware simulator of the EUV lithography scanner helping to save expensive prototype machine time.
Sabbatical / Work on own projects
Multiple locations 2022 - 2022
Evaluated a startup idea: mixed-signal hardware accelerators for machine learning based on a FPGA/FPAA cluster. Registered a small business: PCBs and DIY-Kits for 80s home computers. Traveled in Portugal and Brazil.
Postdoctoral Researcher
University of Greifswald 2020 - 2021
Lectured and redesigned introductory and advanced Python courses in English using Jupyter notebooks. Applied convolutional neural networks to automate image segmentation for microscope imagery implemented in Tensorflow.
Ph.D. Student Researcher
Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics 2015 - 2019
Developed fast control algorithms on a FPGA to increase reliability and output power of the gyrotrons (megawatt-class microwave sources) being part of the heating system of one of the world’s biggest nuclear fusion experiments: Wendelstein 7-X. Developed a microwave diagnostic, engineered microwave filters. Analyzed measured (time-series) data (around 600 GB) to identify a precursor for the failure of a microwave source with assumption-free, non-linear statistics. Outcome: The total output power of the facility was increased by 10 % translating to cost savings of at least 1 Million Euros.
Master Student
Volkswagen AG 2014 - 2015
Implemented a time-resolved, electromagnetic simulation of an eddy-current based measurement to characterize residual stress in an engine component with COMSOL.
Student Assistant
Leibniz University of Hanover 2013 - 2015
Extended a front-end to upload, administer and process lecture video recordings by a user rights management, access control and a jQuery-powered search bar.
Student Intern
Audi AG 2013 - 2013
Developed a modular-extendable software with GUI in MATLAB for the analysis and evaluation of intra-vehicle communication bus data in cooperation with AUDI China.
Student Assistant
Leibniz University of Hanover 2009 - 2013
Developed tools for posthoc video access statistics based on server logs and extensions for the front-end and back-end of the video admin platform.
