Graduate Research Assistant

Studied as an undergrad at the University of Chicago and performed graduate studies at Columbia University where I pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science with a focus in machine learning. Previous professional and extracurricular experience in workflow optimization have allowed me to radically increase workflow efficiency in environments ranging from the research lab reverse-engineering neurotransmitter release to web-scraping and search engine performance at SkyDeck, award winning, startups. Seeking part-time or freelance employment in software engineering or research with a particular preference for ML, database, and algorithmic work.

Led effort to optimize and expand a PostgreSQL-based search-engine database to improve query performance resulting in a 95% increase in query performance from 16 seconds to less than 600 milliseconds. Rebuilt the data-onboarding pipeline in R to extract information from files for hundreds of documents in minutes using both simple search and OCR text recognition in addition to exploring AWS NLP solutions reducing server load during peak usage by 30%. Programmed a Python spider to scrape information regarding hundreds of federal, regional, and local tenders from dozens of regional websites interacting with webpages through both HTML and JavaScript to extract details, download links, and associated files increasing the number of sources for public tenders for the database by 3 times.
Financial Externship
CICC US Securities
2019 - 2020
Analyzed stock reports, participated in the creation of clients' daily briefs, and contributed in teleconferences with analysts. Learned not only about the internal workings of investment banking such as valuation, trading, share classes, industry-specific metrics, topline and bottom-line analysis, equity sales, and stock analysis but of larger financial concepts, combing through internal research regarding macroeconomic patterns in the Chinese mainland and industry trends on the markets. Presented a stock pitch made for the assembled CEO and department leads as a capstone project based on weeks-long assessment of internal stock research on burgeoning markets.
Research Assistant
Sulzer Lab, Columbia University
2019 - 2019
Implemented the tenets of Test-Driven Development and Agile methodology to produce time-sensitive code to work in tandem with experimental researchers. Created programs for the support of ongoing research in Python and C++ to: manipulate proprietary-format files containing voltage-clamp readings, edit experimental footage based on visual cues with the help of OpenCV, and extrapolate statistical trends from XLSX files, streamlining research workflows for researchers with ad-hoc solutions. Managed, maintained, and optimized a multi-thousand-line R project aimed at reverse-engineering neurochemical release based on experimental measurements. Work led to the optimization of data onloading onto local server by 97%.
