I fell in love with coding at the ripe age of 14. Yes, I'm talking about MySpace! I would come home from school and spend hours coding mine and my friend's MySpace profiles. It never occurred to me that I was learning a skill that would become my career. This continued on for the rest of high school. Shortly after I graduated from high school, MySpace had taken its final breathe.
My love for coding was rekindled while I was getting my Associates in Design, Interactivity & Media Arts when I took a class in Web Design. I drove head first into learning everything I could about HTML and CSS. By the end of the class I had built a beautiful website, if you ask me it was the best in the class. The instructor was impressed and told me I should continue on my path as a Web Developer.
After receiving my Associates degree I was hired as a Website Coordinator at a local women's clothing boutique, Katina's. The website was run on Shopify, and there I dived into a new world of Liquid. I honestly had no idea what I was doing, but still, I increased the website sales 170% in my first 3 months there. I had so much fun figuring out Liquid that I decided I needed to continue my education in Web Development.
I got accepted into Bellevue University's Accelerated Web Development Bachelors Degree program. It was there I learned JavaScript, Node.js, Angular, and MongoDB. While in school I decided I needed a job where I could gain more real world experience with what I was learning in school. I was hired as a Web Design Intern at Pixel Fire Marketing. Within months I was promoted to a full-time Web Designer position. In my time there I designed and built dozens of WordPress websites as well as managed hundreds of websites and created content for a handful of social media clients.
In the Fall of 2019 an opportunity to relocate emerged. Since I was finishing up school at this time, I decided that I should give freelancing a shot. Pixel Fire Marketing was my first client (they still are my client), since then I have worked with all kinds of clients from giant retail stores, to local vegan bistro/bakeshops. I was able to expand my services back to Shopify and create custom themes from clients with my new skills. In my spare time I've been able to grow my knowledge with Codecademy courses in Swift and React.
At this point I feel that I am reaching the end of my growth as a freelancer and would like to find a position where I can extend that growth limit. I would prefer to focus my future in web app development (front-end).
