Junior Backend Engineer
As an individual who has possessed a unique perspective since childhood, I have always been driven to question various aspects of life. I consistently ask myself, "Why do we have to do this?" or "What is the purpose behind this?" Unfortunately, this inclination to seek understanding has sometimes led to others ostracizing me. Perhaps it is a gift, or perhaps it is met with criticism. Nonetheless, it is a characteristic that I believe best represents me. I make decisions with a sense of responsibility, always knowing the underlying reasons and opting for the best choices within my capacity.
"We live for what we believe." This phrase resonates with me deeply, and it is exemplified by my decision to adorn my room wall with a depiction of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's iconic campus building with its distinctive round roof. This visual representation allows me to immerse myself in the ambiance of the world's top-tier educational institutions. Although I faced a setback in 2020 when I failed to gain admission to the best university in Indonesia for my bachelor's degree, I firmly believe that every failure holds a purpose. If I had not ended up at the smaller university I attended, I would not have pursued Informatics as my major. Consequently, I would have missed out on the invaluable lessons I learned from my friends, who taught me the importance of project-based learning as a developer. I also would not have had the opportunity to meet an incredibly humble individual who mentored me on the art of writing clean code. Furthermore, I would not have been introduced to a group of friends who entrusted me with managing the development of a product within a tight 13-day deadline.
From 2020 to 2022, my enthusiasm for big data grew exponentially. I embarked on a journey that encompassed Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning, albeit in a challenging and unstructured manner. Discovering the profound impact of matrices in our daily lives was a remarkable revelation. I delved into programming languages such as C++, C#, JavaScript, and, notably, Python, which enabled me to effectively manage and extract data. Concurrently, I acquired knowledge of backend services, honing my ability to create simple APIs for projects and skillfully manage project databases using SQL. To enhance project efficiency during deployment, I also familiarized myself with the implementation of Sequelize.
During my sixth semester at university, I made a significant decision to participate in a one-month study program named Bangkit, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Google, and two Indonesian startup companies, Traveloka and Goto. Choosing the path of Cloud Computing within the program aimed to augment my knowledge and practical experience, ultimately assisting me in identifying the most suitable career path for myself.
While the program presented its fair share of challenges, including tight timelines and moments of burnout, I persevered and managed to navigate through those difficult periods. In the process, I developed a keen understanding of team management, setting objectives to facilitate progress from one step to the next. I firmly believe that uncomfortable situations shape us, leading me to embrace the roles of a product owner and product manager. I now declare my desire to pursue this career path.
