At this position, I served as a founding engineer with 2 other engineers. I was in charge of determining which was the optimal technical way of approaching a given problem when working on a new project. It was at this stage in my career when I found my love for crafting software and how complex it can be, appreciating this aspect as it enables good performant applications. Improvements I was involved at this position include: Performance work on most visited pages to lower bounce rate via using specific caching strategies. This reduced the loading of these pages from seconds to a hundred milliseconds. The setup of an error tracing system (using Sentry) which would also automatically gather error information from common errors as well as from failed transactions. This allowed us to have indispensable information at the time of fixing a bug. The complete responsibility of the initial voting system which was part of the heart of the MVP with which the company gathered the initial round. This would allow a user to cast a vote for a proposal located in the blockchain. It’s the main thing the user visits the application for. The complete responsibility of the initial delegating system which was also part of the heart of the MVP. Both delegating and voting were critical part of the business. This would allow a user to delegate his voting power to some other user, effectively sharing its power. This allowed the application to provide the necessary user flows for the application to be productive. A transaction-sending system which stores the information as the transaction goes over its different statuses which would allow the application to react to said statuses. This allowed the product to behave in many complex ways while maintaining simplicity at the code level. A transaction-creation system which would allow to handle an immensely complex transaction setup through a very user friendly UI. This allowed us to generate great trust with our users and lowering the entry bar for such users, which wouldn’t be necessarily technical after this feature was added.

At this position, I started becoming the professional I am today. Both my leader and the general manager were really serious and professional people. I was ready to start absorbing all the soft skills that there were offering, and that’s how it was. I also polished a little bit my technicals skills although the bigger improvement would come later in the career. Including: The maintenance of a already existent big system that would generate cryptographic assets to be stored in a crypto wallet. There were some interesting problems to be solved, as I vaguely remember.

This was just the much anticipated first job at a consultancy company. Feels today as if it was the perfect first experience. My manager was very understanding, always trying to reach realistic deadlines, which I appreciated a lot. For me personally, it was the opportunity to code all day long, which I very much enjoyed. The implementation of a big reseller from Peru which included the user facing UI but also the complete back-office. This was the number one seller in Peru, so there were a lot of different flows to comply to. It was a really nice experience.
