Since spinning out of a large brokerage firm in 2016, DV Trading has rapidly scaled as an independent proprietary trading firm utilizing its own capital, trading strategies, and risk management methodologies to provide liquidity to worldwide financial markets and hedging opportunities to commodity producers and users. Now, DV group affiliates include two broker dealers, a cryptocurrency market making firm, and a bourgeoning investment adviser. Overview: We are seeking a Database Engineer to join our growing Infrastructure organization. In this role, you’ll work alongside a Sr Engineers to build, operate, and optimize a diverse suite of modern database platforms that power DV’s proprietary trading systems and enterprise services. The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical curiosity, operational discipline, and strong communication skills. You’ll work cross-functionally with DevOps, Systems, Networking, and Trading teams to support both greenfield deployments and production operations. This role includes participation in a shared on-call rotation. Responsibilities:
Build, configure, and maintain relational and non-relational database systems including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Microsoft SQL, Redis and CockroachDB Support schema design, query tuning, and performance optimization for mission-critical workloads Collaborate with developers and traders on data modeling and system requirements across varied business use cases Automate database operations and provisioning tasks using Bash (required) and Python (preferred) with an eye toward Infrastructure-as-Code Participate in performance monitoring and observability using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and internal dashboards Contribute to and maintain operational runbooks, change records, and disaster recovery documentation Work with the team to support replication, backup verification, and failover procedures Maintain a security-first mindset by adhering to access control policies and proper change management practices Share on-call responsibilities with the Database Engineering team, supporting 24/7 availability of critical systems
Requirements:
2+ years of experience supporting SQL-based and NoSQL database systems in a production environment Rapid problem-solving skills with a proven ability to move from root cause analysis to resolution under time pressure Working knowledge of database internals, replication strategies, and backup methodologies Comfortable with Linux command-line tools and scripting in Bash; Python scripting experience is a plus Experience with database observability and motivation to improve performance and operational visibility Familiarity with concepts like HA, DR, and PITR; ability to participate in recovery exercises and production support Clear communicator with a collaborative working >
