WHAT YOU WILL DO

As Senior Counsel, Software Products, you will serve under the general oversight of the COO/General Counsel. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and advising our engineering, product, marketing and operations teams on a wide variety of matters related to all of our software products, the first of which is scheduled to be launched in Spring 2024. including feature/technology research and development, licensing, intellectual property, regulatory proposals and compliance.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Negotiating, preparing, reviewing, and interpreting technology agreements, inbound and outbound technology licenses, terms of use agreements, development agreements, and pre-release agreements.
  • Drafting and simplifying legal agreements and disclosures for our partners and users.
  • Engaging in product documentation reviews and performing first-line product privacy reviews.
  • Advising on the improvement of software processes, especially related to software intake, scanning processes, and open-source release of code.
  • Working with outside patent and trademark counsel to ensure that the company’s inventions and branding are properly protected.
  • Reviewing legal issues related to license compatibility flagged by software scans and preparing a mitigation plan.
  • Providing comprehensive legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders regarding the lawful and secure implementation of AI technologies.
  • Staying up to date with legal advancements in pertinent technologies and facilitating the dissemination of relevant updates to internal stakeholders and fostering awareness of such legal impacts.
  • Identifying new statutes and regulations that have an impact on our product development and prepare a recommendation to comply with such statutes and regulations.
  • Overseeing and leading training initiatives for software best practices.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

You will be admitted and in good standing to a State Bar. You are a highly self-motivated professional who can manage your workload, loves technology and thrives in a fast-paced corporate environment. You must be articulate, organized, flexible, caring, trustworthy, and manage multiple tasks at one time. You are an excellent communicator who is able to articulate complex and nuanced legal issues clearly and concisely to business and engineering teams as well as senior leadership. You are a creative problem-solver who can drive transactions and analyze and help resolve complex issues in innovative and practical ways. You have good business judgment, and legal and research skills. You are adaptable, flexible, organized with strong attention to detail, take initiative, and support other team members and stakeholders as needed.

YOUR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

This position requires a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and a minimum of 7 years of legal experience advising on software and technology-related issues, including intellectual property issues, in-house experience at a software development company preferred. Experience with any: international companies, startups, blockchain, Web3, AI, IoT is a plus.
