About the Role
The Legal Counsel position is an exciting opportunity to join a growing blockchain company as we work to build Web 3. The successful candidate will work with the Chief Legal Officer, Legal team and supporting professionals in a high-speed environment with this exciting emerging technology.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Providing support in monitoring and advising the business on emerging legal and regulatory risks and opportunities.
- Working with the sales team to negotiate, draft and advise on commercial contracts, including, but not limited to, service provider agreements, data licensing agreements, technology agreements, service agreements, consultancy and employment agreements and marketing agreements.
- Assisting the legal team with general corporate legal matters.
- Assisting the legal team and working cross functionally as we build out compliance and risk teams as necessary. Working cross functionally with regulatory, product, sales, protocol, finance, HR and other teams in a manner responsive to ever changing business and product needs.
- Working with and managing outside counsel as appropriate.
- Building legal frameworks for novel technologies, including creating new agreements to support Figment creating new products or supporting new technology, and creating industry standard paper.
- Applying general corporate legal skills in an environment where new product offerings, changing technology and constantly evolving regulation require fast and reasoned legal advice to internal stakeholders.
- Assisting with miscellaneous commercial matters on an ad hoc basis.
Qualifications
- A commercially minded lawyer admitted to practice in a Canadian province.
- 1-4 years’ post qualification experience with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel in a related industry.
- Comfort in dealing with various corporate and commercial law matters, including commercial contract negotiations, drafting and reviewing.
- Familiar with performing multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, oral and written communication and drafting skills.
- A high level of understanding of processes, policies and key relationships, with an ability to monitor, design and continuously improve processes.
- A demonstrated commitment to teamwork and client service excellence.
- Awareness of relevant regulation.
- Interest in blockchain/cryptocurrencies/Web 3.

Base Salary: The CAD base salary range for this position is CAD $150,000 - $185,000. The US base salary range for this position is USD $150,000 - $185,000. This range reflects base salary only, and does not include additional compensation or benefits. For candidates in other countries, the pay range will be disclosed upon your first interview with Figment (being a globally remote company, the list of salary ranges would simply be too long to note here!). The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum range for a new hire across all Canada or the US. A candidate’s specific pay within the range will be determined by various factors including job-related skills, relevant education, and training.
