Director of Legal Business Affairs West

Influentialis looking for an experienced, collaborative and highly motivated team player to join as ourDirector of Legal & Business Affairs, West Coast. This position will report directly to our Chief Legal Officer, EVP of Business & Legal Affairs and will play a critical role in helping stakeholders across the company with contracts in areas ranging from client, vendor and talent agreements to content production, rights, and clearance work. Within the Business & Legal Affairs team, this position will support day-to-day activities, contract management as well as longer-term initiatives and projects. This is a great opportunity to join a growing team and work on cutting-edge legal and business issues in an exciting, fast-paced environment. The role is open to candidates living full-time in the Pacific Time Zone.

In general, on a typical day, you will:

  • Review, edit and advise on legal correspondence and contracts, including agreements, amendments, SaaS licenses, SOWs, and NDAs
  • Liaise between internal business partners and client teams during contract development and negotiation
  • Serve as a resource for Sales and Operations teams’ inquiries about governing terms of insertion orders, custom content agreements, media vendor agreements and intellectual property rights issues
  • Conduct rights analysis, summarize existing and proposed agreements and research relevant legal issues
  • Perform research on rights, media platforms, legal provisions, and industry and territory-specific laws and requirements
  • Monitor changes to government guidelines and/or regulations
  • Work with Legal team to assess advertising claims substantiation, prepare disclosures, disclaimers, and support sweepstakes, contest, and promotional offers
  • Maintain knowledgebase of resources, develop industry best practices, process improvements, and conduct related compliance trainings
  • Learn and implement the company’s review and approval protocols for different agreement types
  • Liaise with Sales and Operations teams to track and manage deal status and related reporting, maintain and track reports for all assigned projects and ensure that agreements are executed in a timely manner
  • Maintain and update internal resources for onboarding and team-specific trainings
  • Additional responsibilities as delegated by the Chief Legal Officer

Being a Director of Business & Legal Affairs requires:

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney
  • Ability to build positive client relationships at all levels of the business and advise clients
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate and interact with clients, representatives, and outside attorneys
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills, impeccable judgement, integrity, and collaborative team player
  • Must be able to function effectively and work independently, multi-task under pressure, and manage a high-volume workload efficiently in a team-oriented environment

Bonus points if:

  • Experience working at a startup, especially a media company or agency
  • Familiarity and comfort with advertising and media agreements and business terms
  • Understanding of content production process, especially with rights, clearances and SAG
  • Experience in corporate and/or privacy law
  • Working knowledge of and interest in Web3 and/or the Metaverse
