This role is instrumental in replacing fragmented legacy tools (New Relic, Splunk, GCP Cloud Ops) with a unified, scalable observability solution built on Dynatrace. The SME will work in close partnership with the engineering teams to deliver a best-in-class observability strategy, establish frameworks and best practices, and ensure all environments and services are comprehensively and consistently monitored across the stack. Key Responsibilities
Act as a technical leader and hands-on contributor throughout the Dynatrace implementation lifecycle. Collaborate directly with the engineering squads to:
Define and apply monitoring best practices Develop and maintain telemetry pipelines, alerting configurations, and dashboards Implement end-to-end observability across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and databases
Migrate existing observability solutions:
Replace New Relic with Dynatrace RUM Replace Splunk with Dynatrace Logging
Optimize and standardize APM and infrastructure monitoring on Dynatrace Configure and operationalize AI/ML-based observability features, such as AI Observer and automated anomaly detection. Develop integrations for third-party tools (e.g. Conviva, Sonarqube, GitHub, Harness). Establish a framework of standards and guardrails for long-term observability governance. Provide training, enablement, and documentation to the teams to ensure smooth handover and operational readiness.
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Dynatrace, including enterprise-scale implementations At least 3 years in technical leadership roles, partnering with multi-disciplinary development teams Proven success in observability tool migrations and change management Familiarity with GCP environments, cloud-native architectures, and DevOps/SRE practices One or more current Dynatrace certifications (Associate, Professional, or higher) Deep expertise in Dynatrace capabilities:
RUM (Android, iOS, Web) APM on Grail Logging on Grail SLO and Error Budget configuration Metric, log, and trace correlation IaC setup and configuration via Terraform
Strong command of:
Full-stack observability best practices GCP monitoring (VMs, Containers, Cloud SQL) CI/CD tooling (Harness, GitHub) Infrastructure monitoring (Linux, Windows, Kubernetes) Familiarity with legacy platforms (New Relic, Splunk) to facilitate seamless migration

Implementation of a fully operational Dynatrace-based monitoring platform, covering all environments (DEV → PROD) Clear documentation and runbooks for all configurations and processes Defined observability metrics and value assessment benchmarks (MTTD, MTTR, MTBF, DORA) Successful migration of New Relic and Splunk monitoring use cases to Dynatrace Configured alerting, routing, and synthetic testing aligned with Telus’ operational workflows
