As a Software Engineer at Protocol Labs, you may have the ability to ...
- Build the next generation of peer-to-peer software, working on open source projects such as IPFS, Filecoin, Drand, and libp2p
- Contribute to steering and maintenance of the implementations of IPFS, Filecoin, Drand, libp2p and similar open source projects
- Create or maintain software libraries and programs depended on by other systems and applications
- Engage and educate the community, from users to contributors
- Lead and develop more junior engineers, and provide guidance and review for open source contributors around the world
- Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure to power large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant services while ensuring the highest security standards.
- Work with standard tools to monitor and inspect the different deployments -- choosing and creating tooling to quickly assess health, evolution, and any adjustments needed.
- Work alongside a cross-functional team including software design & development, product management, and ecosystem engineers. Provide technical leadership, support, and best-practices to stakeholders across the PL Network (inside/outside the org).
- Support launch of new products & services by participating in system design, building and deploying software-defined infrastructure, capacity planning, and operational readiness.
- Study, design, and propose improvements to the underlying cryptographic primitives of IPFS, libp2p, Filecoin, and other projects.
- Validate design proposals through experiments and/or proofs-of-concept.
- Develop prototypes into production-ready implementations.
- Work in a fully asynchronous and remote team.
You may be a fit for this role if you have any of the following and more is better....
- BS/MS in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Network Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, or extensive practical experience.
- Significant experience building applications using Go, Rust, JavaScript, C, C++, OpenCL, Cuda, x86 Assembly or related languages
- Have experience deploying production-grade infrastructure in an automated, reliable, and portable manner using Continuous Integration & Continuous Deployment tools such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI, TravisCI, or similar.
- Comfortable with software-defined infrastructure & configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
- Experience with contemporary monitoring & metrics tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, InfluxDB, etc.
- Literacy with cryptographic principles and practices
- A solid understanding or experience designing and building distributed and/or p2p software systems and Web3
- Experience with 1 or more of the following: Smart Contracts, storage platforms, UNIX file systems, VMs (preferred)
- Deep understanding of network protocols such as TCP, UDP, IP, HTTP
- Strong experience and familiarity with a variety of data mining/data analysis tools, techniques, and concepts or track record of driving business results with data-driven insights.
- Experienced with implementing models, simulations, and data visualization and using distributed data/computing tools.
- Passionate about deriving insights from large datasets and work with different teams to improve outcomes and processes.
- Comfortable with publishing analysis and inspiring others to participate.
- A drive to learn and master new technologies and chart new territories.
- Proven experience in developing robust, reusable, and maintainable code.
- Proven track record of independently driving projects in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrable background in security or cryptography.
- Participate in and contribute to Open Source projects.
- Excellent communication skills on both technical and non-technical issues
- A keen awareness of teamwork, process, and patterns of successful collaboration
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Place high value in documentation, and sharing of knowledge through effective written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Highly-Valued Bonus Points
- PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Network Science or a related field.
- Experience working remotely in a distributed team.
- Familiarity with Web3 ecosystem and blockchain technologies.
- Prior entrepreneurial experience.
- Knowledge of security and cryptography.
- Proven experience in developing robust, reusable, and maintainable code.
