Protocol Integration Engineer (Vac Team)

Description
We are the Vac team, and we are building a communications tool with security, censorship resistance and privacy in mind. See Vac, Waku v2 and Ethereum Messaging for more. You will focus on making Waku v2 and the reference implementation nim-waku production-ready: as robust, scalable and secure as possible for large scale deployment. This also includes implementing and maintaining required protocols.
Our implementation is written in Nim - an efficient, expressive and elegant programming language.
Key Responsibilities
- Write and maintain Nim code.
- Research and design core functionality.
- Provide feedback on overall design decisions and participate in code reviews.
- Integrate nim-waku in other environments, including using FFI in a polyglot environment and running in many different environments (mobile phones, etc).
- Support the production implementation with security issues, bug fixes and similar.
- Ship high-quality software (including testing, benchmarks, monitoring).
- Interpret and implement solutions based on academic research.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Ideally you will have:

- Experience in, and passion for, blockchain technology and decentralization.
- A strong alignment to our principles: https://status.im/about/#our-principles
- Strong academic or engineering background.
- Experience with low level/strongly typed languages (C/C++/Go/Rust or Java/C#), including FFI; we also welcome people with experience in Lisp/Haskell/Nix or similar.
- Experience with Open Source software.
- Experience with FFI and dealing with concurrency in polyglot environments and across different runtimes.
Bonus points if:
- Contributed to a blockchain-related, open source project.
- Experience with Nim
- Experience writing performant and non-trivial software in mobile environments, FFI concurrency, networking, cryptography.
