About This Role - Data Protection Officer
Genesis is seeking a Global Data Protection Officer to develop and monitor our global data protection program. The DPO will advise on our compliance with local data protection laws, including GDPR, PDPA and CCPA and monitor adherence to these standards. The DPO will report directly to the Compliance Chief of Staff and act as point of contact with supervisory authorities and data subjects.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Legal, Governance, and Information Security departments to develop and monitor policies and standards applicable to the business and in compliance with data protection laws.
- Establish a privacy governance framework to manage data use in compliance with the GDPR, PDPA, CCPA and other applicable regulations, including developing templates for data collection, assisting with data mapping, and vendor management reviews.
- Ensure the company’s IT systems and procedures comply with all relevant data privacy and protection laws, regulations, and policies, including in relation to the retention and destruction of data.
- Conduct related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with the organization's other compliance and operational assessment functions.
- Collaborate with key internal stakeholders in the review of projects and related data to ensure compliance with local data privacy laws, and where necessary, perform and advise on privacy impact assessments, mitigation, and remediation.
- Ensure the organization has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consents, authorization forms and information notices and materials reflecting current organization and legal practices and requirements.
- Monitor compliance with the GDPR, and other applicable data protection laws as well as policies established by controllers or processors for the protection of personal data
- Provide advice and recommendations to the company about the interpretation or application of the data protection rules and provide staff training for any employees involved with processing activities.
Requirements
- 8+ years of total experience with minimum of 5 years’ experience working in data protection compliance or a related field.
- Expertise in data protection laws and practices including an in-depth understanding of the GDPR/ CCPA and other similar regulation.
- Experience within a legal, compliance and/or risk function department
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive and confidential information with appropriate discretion and judgment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail
- Great interpersonal skills and ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
- Must have experience working in a global organization.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as, but not limited to, CIPP, CIPT, ISEB is preferred.
