Art Blocks has an opening for a highly organized and customer-oriented Gallery Coordinator to oversee the operations of our gallery in Marfa, Texas. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring exceptional guest service, staffing and supervising gallery and events staff, and coordinating facilities management. You will also assist in the planning, marketing, and execution of local events. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a passion for art and technology. We will provide all the necessary training to succeed in becoming conversant in Art Blocks, generative art, and our artists. 

You will be on-site at our gallery on a consistent work schedule that covers the weekend (such as Wednesday-Sunday or Thursday-Monday) to align with peak tourism foot traffic and special events, during which evening work hours should be expected (e.g., Art Blocks Marfa Weekend, Chinati Weekend, Marfa Invitational). Preference will be given to candidates already living in the Marfa area. For the right candidate, we are flexible to adjust position level and schedule accommodations, including considering full-time or part-time preferences. This role reports to our Marfa-based People Operations Coordinator.

Responsibilities

    • Provide personalized guest service, understand visitors' interests and supply tailored answers to questions, including information about Marfa area recommendations, sites and events
    • Speak confidently to visitors about the current exhibitions, the artists and their art
    • Engage visitors on the basics of generative art, blockchain, minting, and other relevant topics, promoting understanding and appreciation of Art Blocks and on-chain art
    • Perform routine updates on screens and digital displays used within the gallery
    • Help plan and produce the gallery’s annual calendar of events and programs
    • Help hire, supervise, and train temporary support staff for special events
    • Communicate any issues, concerns, or special requests from visitors to Ops team
    • Maintain a clean and well-organized gallery space
    • Coordinate repair and maintenance with People Operations Coordinator and Ops/Finance
    • Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining visitor logs and collecting feedback or surveys

Requirements

    • Passion for creating exceptional guest experiences
    • Impeccable communication and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • In-depth knowledge of Marfa and the surrounding area
    • Experience in a customer-facing role, operations, or events

Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with Mac OS, Slack, Asana, Google Workspace 
    • Experience with hiring & supervising temporary staff
    • Knowledge of local event production
    • Bilingual in English & Spanish
