Web3 Investment Associate - Corporate Development

The Role:

As BitMEX gears up for its next phase of growth, the newly formed ‘Corporate Development / Strategic Finance’ department is being established to build out the company’s capital markets transaction capabilities. This new division’s first hire will be front and center in helping shape the future of both BitMEX as well as the digital assets industry:

1. Supporting every step of the execution of M&A and strategic investments, from sourcing to deal structuring / negotiation to post-M&A integration planning;
2. Ongoing monitoring and active management of the dozens of companies in BitMEX’s portfolio; and
3. Strategic finance, aligning the company’s resources and capital structure to future expansion plans.

Responsibilities:

• Help drive the execution of industry-shaping M&A (as well as strategic investments), encompassing:
  • regularly producing market maps / competitive landscapes
  • assisting with sourcing investment opportunities
  • performing financial modeling and transaction comparables to support deal structuring
  • supporting due diligence as well as post-deal integration planning
  • preparing investment memos and other documentation for Board-level consumption

• Play a central role in managing BitMEX’s portfolio of investments, including:
  • liaising with founders and CEOs
  • reviewing and analyzing financial, operational and strategic information from portfolio companies
  • partnering with senior team members of other BitMEX departments to pursue portfolio-wide integrations

• Develop perspectives on the market economics of key segments within the digital asset industry
• Build strong connections with industry players, startups, and investors to be at the forefront of new developments.
• Contribute to improving the ‘Corporate Development / Strategic Finance’ team by enhancing existing processes

Qualifications:

• Demographic must-haves:
  • 1-3 years of experience at a top-tier company in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, or strategy consulting (preferably with backgrounds in the TMT or Financial Institutions verticals) with deal experience
  • BA/BS degree from a top university; strong academic record with business / finance orientation

• Psychographic must-haves:
  • Commercial mindset with excellent analytical competence, showing initiative and ability to take on responsibility
  • Team player with strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to multitask in fast-paced environment to plan and manage a variety of projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to thrive under ambiguity and demonstrate creativity and intellectual flexibility in an uncertain and rapidly changing environment
  • Intellectual curiosity for cryptocurrency, blockchain and fintech

• We'd love to see:
  • Experience in financial services and/or consumer Internet, especially if focused on digital currency.
  • Experience negotiating and closing deals
