Messari is hiring a
Web3 Software Engineer, DeFi Metrics

Compensation: $125k - $150k

Location: NY New York City, New York, United States

The Role

We are looking for an experienced engineer to build the most comprehensive DeFi metrics platform in web3. As a blockchain focused engineer, your role is to interact with on-chain protocols like Aave and integrate with off-chain APIs like The Graph, to build ingestion and analytical pipelines for on-chain metrics across protocols and across chains.
Our data is both real time and historical, which each present unique challenges in how we store and provide access to our data. Our APIs are written in GraphQL, REST, and gRPC depending on the use case. We like Go for its simplicity and maintainability, and Postgres for features and reliability. We deploy using Kubernetes on Amazon Web Services. That being said, we’re not dogmatic and always believe in using the best tool for the job.

What you'll do

  • Help build the most comprehensive DeFi metrics platform used by crypto analysts, investors, as well as degens and yield farmers. We strive to have the best coverage both in terms of breadth (# of chains, # of protocols) as well as depth (user/pool level data, transaction level data).
  • Work with product managers, data scientists, and research analysts to create data models for various DeFi protocols. You will need a working understanding of how these protocols work, how various metrics are calculated, and how these data are exposed from underlying smart contracts.
  • Build out ingestion pipeline for new data sources including non-EVM chains and 3rd party data vendors, with a focus on scaling (how can we make it easy to scale to 100 protocols).
  • Design and implement API endpoints to expose these data (REST, gRPC, GraphQL).

Who you are

  • 2+ years experience with modern backend technologies including Golang, Postgres, and AWS
  • a desire to work on big complex projects with lots of creative freedom
  • a passion for shipping high-quality products
  • an interest in the crypto space, and a love for building tools that help users navigate the web3 world
  • empathetic and love to help your teammates grow

Projects you could work on

  • Design and implement a subgraph to expose financial metrics on Convex (e.g. TVL, APY/APR, Fees, Revenue).
  • Build out ingestion pipeline for protocols in the Cosmos ecosystem. This includes ingesting on-chain data via Cosmos RPC, parsing and aggregating them in usable formats, as well as backfilling historical data.
  • Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of our ingestion pipeline. For example, how to cut down data retrieval time by 3x.

What’s it like to work with our engineering team?

  • A welcoming and open environment with people who love to collaborate on ideas and tackle complex problems
  • Work with a small team of engineers with large impact across product, research, and business development
  • Participate in forums like Family Meals and Messari Lab to share ideas or technologies you’ve been exploring and tinkering with

Salary Ranges for Engineering (based on level during interview process)

  • Associate$125,000 - $150,000
  • Mid$150,000 - $175,000
  • Senior $175,000 - $200,000 +
