Bitwave is a rapidly expanding startup that specializes in software for businesses that use digital assets and crypto. Our platform provides cryptocurrency accounting, tax tracking, bookkeeping, digital asset treasury management, crypto AR / AP tooling, and we recently added full DeFi support (lending pool, liquidity pools, NFTs, etc).
We're looking to hire a highly motivated Associate General Counsel to play a key role in providing expertise in all areas of corporate law, commercial agreements, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong grasp of the law, specifically commercial law, as well as the ability to quickly learn additional areas as they become relevant. Our ideal candidate will also have demonstrated success in a high-growth environment and a strong passion for crypto and DeFi.
In this role you will:
- Draft and negotiate agreements in relation to our services, as well as evaluate and review incoming agreements from outside entities
- Reviews and consults on the drafting of policies, procedures, and relevant correspondence
- Develop relationships and work closely with external counsel and auditors to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in all areas
- Handle legal matters of all levels of severity and complexity through independent abilities, and consultation with external counsel when necessary
- Function as a strategic partner to identify areas of opportunity to minimize legal risks and to ensure that legal costs are kept to a minimum
- Conduct legal research on the impact of new laws, regulation and government policy
- Identify legal and compliance issues and risks, and escalate appropriately, exercising sound judgment about matters that require attention of senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience specializing in corporate law in an established firm, or working as in-house counsel for a firm specializing in financial services, fintech and/or crypto.
- JD Degree and membership in at least one state bar
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Fintech, crypto company experience strongly preferred
- Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
