Overview of role
Heretic Ventures is seeking a strategic, innovative and resourceful Data Producer to support the launch of our new Generative AI ventures.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing successful AI models through the development of data (text, descriptions, images and more) that train large models. You are able to conceptualize how data affects AI model learning and implement innovative strategies to source, create, clean, and manage data. The ideal candidate is a right-brain/left-brain thinker, both creative and analytical. You’re a problem-solver, comfortable with ambiguity, excited to work with cross functional teams, and operating with a growth mindset. Given that we are building consumer and design-led companies, a strong sense of aesthetic and eye for design and quality is important.
You have scaled production operations before, and enjoy thinking about process and tools that can help scale data production to large levels.
This role offers the unique opportunity to explore the field of AI with pioneers and contribute to the growth of billion-dollar companies, while learning from seasoned entrepreneurs, product leaders, and a roster of experienced mentors and advisors.
The role requires five days per week in-person at our sunny Presidio, SF office. Compensation includes a competitive salary, benefits, and equity. Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over the sponsorship of employment visas.
About Heretic
Heretic Ventures is a San Francisco-based venture studio launching new consumer businesses, including those that capitalize on AI/ML technology. Heretic is led by Managing Partner Mariam Naficy, who founded and built the pioneering internet companies Minted and Eve.com. Heretic is backed by household names in Silicon Valley (investors and entrepreneurs), who act as the studio’s advisors.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Project Leads to understand the data needs of each project, capture project requirements, facilitate collaboration among team members, and maintain clear and transparent communication with stakeholders to deliver on data needs for diverse projects.
- Oversee data quality and ensure high standards of consistent of data quality
- Provide guidance and direction to drive the success of various data work streams, including collaborating with contractors.
- Proactively and creatively crafting data strategies to meet diverse projects needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree
- 2+ years of professional experience in data production, analytics, financial analysis or other field that demonstrates the ability to think analytically and structure analysis and data
- 5+ years of experience in creative production (text, descriptions, copywriting, and images), including managerial experience overseeing operations and scaling teams
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and execution skills
- Proven experience working with cross-functional teams
- Comfort with ambiguity
- Strong entrepreneurial bent and the willingness to do what it takes to make the companies successful
- Demonstrated ability to understand data needs and devise strategies to meet these needs.
- A solid understanding of technology and the ability to grasp technical concepts to enable effective decision-making, problem-solving, and communication with technical teams.
- Strong aesthetic sense and an eye for detail to ensure high-quality image data.
- Skills in project planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and risk management are essential for successfully overseeing the entire project lifecycle and ensuring timely and on-budget project delivery.
- The ability to identify and resolve issues, make decisions under pressure, and adapt to changing circumstances is crucial for managing the complexities and challenges that arise during technology projects.
Nice to Haves
- Experience or interest in AI/ML models and tools.
- Experience in data pipeline tools and languages such as SQL, Python, etc.
- Experience managing a team of contractors.
