Web3 Director, Enterprise Architecture

Compensation: $63k - $90k estimated

Location: CA San Francisco, California, United States

This position is responsible for building and leading a team of practical, strategic architects who will cover Enterprise, Cloud, Infrastructure, and Network domains for all of Blockdaemon. As a Director, this individual will also be accountable for creating, maintaining, and driving adoption of architecture references, artifacts, processes and governance. The Director will also be accountable for building a world-class, top-1% team of architects, including Enterprise, Platform, Cloud, Infrastructure, Business and Solution.

Responsibilities:

  • Take lead in designing a world-class Enterprise Architecture organization. This will be one of the first, if not the first such Enterprise Architecture group in the domain of blockchain solutions.
  • Grow and recruit top 1% architecture talent with both a passion for architecture and a desire to learn the intricacies of architecture as applies to blockchain solutions.
  • Drive adoption of architecture principles, references, practices, and processes across the wider engineering organization.
  • Work with a team of talented engineers, product managers and business stakeholders to define and implement the processes for the definition, maintenance, and conformance management of a robust, dynamic Enterprise Architecture.
  • Create and maintain key Enterprise Architecture deliverables, including shared models, diagrams and documents to effectively communicate among key stakeholders.
  • Create security-first architectures designed to enforce compliance governance as well as audit-oriented logging requirements.
  • Document and create an approach for addressing existing technical debt.
  • Establish service-oriented architecture (SOA); oversee transformation from current-state to well-defined services as part of regular product and project work.
  • Collaborate with the Data team to design canonical representations of key enterprise data, including HA, security and vendor-exposure aspects.
  • Establish and maintain information systems programs and contacts within business units to understand business activities and business drivers, business requirements, solutions strategies and alternatives.
  • Create or improve existing integration patterns for use in the enterprise landscape.
  • Contribute to authorization and authentication designs using SAML/OAuth2; Okta.
  • Evaluate, improve and streamline application, data and security design aspects of the SDLC.
  • Create integration patterns for inclusion of future back-office applications, including ERP, CRM, Martech and HCM.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to design service and asset management processes in support of ITSM and ISO/SOC2, etc.
  • Drive creation of a process for evaluating introduction of new technologies to the enterprise landscape in terms of vendor analysis, build-vs-buy-vs-improve decisions, and business case justification.
  • Collaborate with the engineering leadership team to align architecture with both business and engineering strategy.
  • Provide architectural guidance in the resolutions of inter-program and inter-project issues.
  • Conduct ongoing research and assessment of new analysis approaches for potential use within the Enterprise.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience designing and scaling an Enterprise Architecture organization within a software, technology or fintech company.
  • Experience managing high-performing, high-visibility individual contributors.
  • Experience in a growth-phase startup, corporate transformation, or equivalently dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience with the cloud, bare-metal and mixed ecosystems, including knowledge of trade-offs inherent in specific data patterns inherent to each environment.
  • Experience in a hyper-scale transactional environment, both in terms of volumes and transaction complexity.
  • Experience designing and implementing resilient transaction architectures designed to maximize both performance and replayability.
  • At least some prior experience creating reusable integration patterns for business-systems (e.g., ERP, CRM, HCM, etc.)
  • Experience within a complex, evolving compliance/regulatory industry.
  • Preferred but not required, experience in Fintech, Blockchain, Banking or Finance.
  • Prior work experience in an architecture (application, technical, systems, integration), technical consulting, process re-engineering or application delivery/technical engineering role.
  • Broad and extensive technical and functional knowledge of application delivery methods and familiarly with how portfolios of systems work together to create enterprise solutions.
  • Experience with techniques including systems flows, data/business object modeling, use case and user interface prototyping.
  • Working knowledge of UML and at least one of the enterprise architecture notation standards.
  • Creation of architecture artifacts for inclusion in M&A playbooks.
  • Outstanding communication skills including demonstrated ability to effectively engage, influence and communicate technical and business issues and solutions to all levels in the organization.
  • At least one example of handling “on-hands-on-deck”/“swarming” situations to resolve production issues within an unforgiving transactional environment.
  • Deep knowledge of agile Scrum, Kanban and/or Scrumban delivery models.
