Web3 Head of Advocacy & Government Relations

The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteer-led think tank supporting and advocating the application of blockchain and other emerging technology in the global fight against climate change.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic volunteer who will serve as the Head of Advocacy & Government Relations. The individual will build and maintain relationships with their key stakeholders and audiences to enhance influence, reputation and profile of BCI.

The ideal candidate is driven and experienced; and looking to make a difference to international climate change governance. The successful candidate will have experience in government relations and stakeholder engagement with a track record of successfully engaging contacts to meet objectives.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the BCI’s Advocacy & Government Relations (A&GR) Branch under the External Affairs Bureau. A&GR is one of the three pillars in the EAB led by the Deputy Director-General. EAB is a super-department in BCI comprising Advocacy and Government Relations Branch; Communications Branch (covering social media management, branding and design, and video production); and Knowledge Management & Impact Evaluation Branch. The key duties of the Head of Advocacy & Government Relations (HAG) as head of branch will include but not limited to the followings:
  • To support the Deputy Director-General (DDG) and the senior leadership team to engage effectively with senior policy makers, politicians and the international media, etc.;
  • To devise and execute political and public policy advocacy campaigns to support BCI’s strategic objectives;
  • To lead lobbying and influencing activities among political establishments in various regions with the support of local Regional Coordinators; and
  • To identify impactful project opportunities and make effective pitches to potential sponsors.
  • Building and leading new teams to manage the future Advocacy & Government Relations strategic agenda. This will include:
  • Hiring and managing a team (small to begin with; growing as required) of volunteers with relevant external affairs and public policy experience;
  • Developing and overseeing the External Affairs policies; and
  • Working with the ExCo members to develop strategic vision in line with the BCI’s mission.
  • Managing other ad-hoc external affairs as needed (including BCI’s COP26 Work Programmes).
