Web3 Observability Engineer

Compensation: $34k - $80k estimated

As an Observability Engineer, you will play a critical role in making the internal state of Ripple’s infrastructure and services visible to stakeholders for troubleshooting, performance analysis, capacity planning, and reporting. You will develop platforms and tooling to enable developers and operators to efficiently trace performance problems to their source, and to map their application performance to business objectives. You will lead the standardization and adoption of observability tools for the Infrastructure department including Platform, Database, Reliability, and Cloud Operations teams, as well as developer teams working on RippleNet, Liquidity Hub, the XRP Ledger, and other services.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Design and build an observability infrastructure for all engineering teams to consume
  • Design and develop tools for metric collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Educate and lead efforts to improve observability among all engineering teams
  • Work with teams to enable an effective and pleasant on-call experience
  • Identify and collect the appropriate measurements, and synthesize the correct queries, to show intuitive and insightful visualizations which characterize the behavior of complex systems
  • Build a metrics pipeline with end to end latency under 10 seconds
  • Integrate logs with time series data for event correlation
  • Help us unlock the power of distributed tracing

WHAT YOU MIGHT LOOK LIKE:

  • Experience with metrics exporters and integrations (Node Exporter, Telegraf, Blackbox Exporter)
  • Experience with metrics collection and storage (Prometheus, Thanos, InfluxDB, Cortex)
  • Experience with log collection and storage (Sumologic, Loki, ELK, Splunk)
  • Experience with metric and log query languages (PromQL, LogQL, Sumo Logic)
  • Experience with with alert and notification management (Alertmanager, PagerDuty, Slack integrations)
  • Experience with building dashboards (Grafana, Loki, Sumologic, Tenable)
  • Experience with distributed tracing tools (Sentry, Jaeger, Zipkin)
  • Experience with application performance monitoring (DataDog)
  • Experience measuring the Golden Signals and DORA metrics
  • Comfortable working with JSON and YAML
  • Extensive Linux/*nix systems experience
  • Proven development background with Go, Python, or Java
  • Experience with the Hashicorp tool ecosystem (Terraform, Vault, Consul)
  • Experience with the Kubernetes ecosystem (Istio, Helm, Argo)
  • Configuration management and orchestration experience (Kubernetes, Salt, Ansible)
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructures, particularly AWS and GCP
  • Security awareness, with an emphasis on designing for security best practices
  • 5+ years experience working in Observability / SRE / DevOps / Performance
