Web3 Professional Services Engineering Manager

R3's Professional Services team works to bring Corda specialist expertise to our customers to make their adoption successful. We engage directly with our customers to design, build, deploy and advise them on their Corda journey to ensure long-term capabilities are sustained. Through business consulting, technical solutions and implementation, we help customers achieve their goals most effectively for their business, owning projects ranging from small design POCs to full-end to end implementations for Digital Currencies and Digital Assets real-world problems.

Our customer-centric and innovative approach to providing services and solutions in the industry allows us to strategically assess our customer's needs and ensure they are set up for success from the beginning of their journey. In addition to working directly with our customers, we strive to collaborate internally with our Sales, Engineering and Product organisations to provide high-quality solutions, tooling, services and products based on our customer's evolving needs.

 

Reporting to the Head of Professional Services, you will be responsible for the Engineering function of the Professional Services organisation; you will line manage a global team of multi-disciplinary engineers who are responsible for providing engineering services to R3 customers, providing technical solutions for end-to-end implementation projects leveraging R3's Distributed Ledger Technology and Digital Currency solutions. 

This role also requires you to be part of the wider PS leadership team, and you will be expected to align on PS goals and strategy to help the organisation grow into 2024 and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the PS delivery Engineering strategy to ensure the team has precise, concise working methods. 
• In conjunction with the PS leadership team, define and communicate a detailed delivery plan or template to ensure projects are delivered consistently and aligned with the agreed strategy.
• Balance billable utilisation of the PS engineering team to ensure the PS team delivers revenue while creating repeatable toolkits and templates to ensure operational efficiency for future projects.
• Responsible for the overall health of the PS engineering team, creating opportunities to share, collaborate and inspire the team. 
• Define Software Development processes to be followed by the team and share this to ensure consistency across all projects, focusing on quality, scope and budgets.
• Assist in creating a framework to estimate build projects and ensure the PS team can provide the best possible estimates for components of complex build projects.
• Provide high-level guidance to senior technology and business stakeholders and represent R3 in tactical and high-level conversations detailing the benefits and attributes of the R3's technology suite. 
• Conduct interviews to help the team expand, ensuring the quality of engineers is maintained to its highest standards.
• Synthesise customer feedback and promptly communicate learnings internally to Engineering, Product and Sales to enhance R3 product and service offerings alongside the evolving needs of our customers.

Experience

• A proven track record in mentoring, supporting and improving engineering teams.
• Experience in building and growing customer-facing engineering teams.
• Experience in building systems that are production grade and a strong understanding of how to release code with distributed systems or n-tier architecture.
• Ability to clearly articulate architecture needs to both business and technical audiences.
• Previous hands-on experience with a JVM-based programming language.
• Ability to articulate technical solutions and extract these into customer solutions
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Previous success in a fast-paced and dynamic environment managing multiple projects and initiatives.
• Full software delivery experience of complete end-to-end projects, preferably leveraging AWS and Azure cloud technologies.
• Experience collaborating with cross-department leads to deliver large-scale projects.
