Senior Editor, Crypto Explainer+

CoinDesk, the leading digital media company in the rapidly growing world of digital assets, aims to create an authoritative library of information around cryptocurrency, Web 3 and related topics.

Cryptocurrency and digital assets are entirely new and the current online ecosystem around it leaves too many people out – too often the resources are confusing and full of insider jargon. CoinDesk’s Crypto Explainer+ section aims to demystify crypto for anyone looking to educate themselves about this new asset class and be part of this next generation of investing.

CoinDesk is seeking an ambitious editor to grow our educational and evergreen content. The Crypto Explainer+ Editor will oversee the development of articles, videos, podcasts and other content intended to educate and inform a broad spectrum of readers new to the world of cryptocurrency, working with both staff and freelance writers to attract the largest possible audience with best-in-class content experiences.

The ideal candidate has experience covering cryptocurrency and/or other relevant crypto background and is able to put themself in the mind of a beginner reader, crafting content that is simultaneously informative and accessible. We’re looking for someone who is able to break complex topics into easy-to-understand bites and loves finding creative ways to help people “get” crypto.

As the Crypto Explainer+ Editor, you will help build and enact a content plan around evergreen content and SEO. This will run the gamut from revising and optimizing current articles, producing a steady stream of new content and working across teams to identify and tap into trends that will drive future interest.

The Crypto Explainer+ Editor reports to the Managing Editor, Learn.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Strategically ideate, write and edit content for CoinDesk’s Learn section, including evergreen and semi-evergreen informational articles, explainer videos and podcasts, and social content
• Ensure best practices for SEO are implemented throughout the process — from content strategy to site tools to individual articles
• Continually monitor search behavior to inform content strategy
• Work across departments — editorial, product, marketing, audience — to build and optimize website and CMS tools for the best experience and maximum audience
• Help develop new content arms (e.g. reviews and online courses) within the Learn channel
• Help recruit and manage freelance writers

ABOUT YOU

• 3+ years of experience as a journalist or editor, with experience covering crypto and financial markets
• Thorough knowledge of SEO and data tools and how to incorporate it into content strategy
• Ability to experiment with new formats while maintaining a high standard
• Project management skills to manage editorial schedules and freelancers
• Strong writing, editing and presentation skills
• Familiarity with online collaboration tools such as Slack, Airtable, etc.
