Web3 VP of Engineering

BlockFi is looking for a VP of Engineering to join our Engineering team.

About the Team

Our Engineering team is globally distributed across several time zones and regions. Our teams consist of backend, front end, mobile (native iOS & Android), and quality engineers that work cross functionally with product managers and product designers, as well as other key stakeholders to deliver innovative products & reliable, scalable solutions.

Your Mission

In this role, you will be responsible for the velocity of the engineering team, the quality of the engineered product, and meeting the expectations of both internal and external customers. You will hire, scale, and develop a team capable of executing on product strategies and in alignment with a dynamic product roadmap. You will build and foster a culture of engineering excellence and accountability capable of producing best-in-class products with a focus on teamwork, accountability, and quality.

Responsibilities:

• Structure and lead teams, individuals, and cross-functional relationships in a way that ensures productivity and transparent communication
• Structure, mentor and organize a global team of engineers to align with the strategic objectives of the company and execute the product roadmap efficiently
• Lead the adoption of agile methodologies and best practices within the engineering organization
• Partner with Product leadership to implement continuous improvement, deployment and testing as part of the product delivery lifecycle
• Work with cross-functional leaders in product, design, security, etc. to set aggressive but achievable timelines and targets for Engineering deliverables while not sacrificing quality
• Articulate plans and projects to both senior level executives and more junior team members; in addition to representing the team in a variety of scenarios: Company meetings; exec meetings; strategic partnerships; and product direction discussions.
• Cultivate an effective partnership with our People and Talent Acquisition teams to drive the recruitment, development, and performance of a world-class, globally distributed engineering team

Your Expertise

• 12+ years of experience as a technology leader with a proven track record of leading Engineering teams, with a minimum of 5 years in a broad technical leadership role
• Proven leadership experience as a VP of Engineering or similar leadership role, leading a geographically distributed engineering team
• Able to rapidly identify, communicate, and drive to resolution of issues with multiple teams, leaders, and business stakeholders
• Experience with organizational design and structure for engineering teams with a demonstrate a track record of effectively aligning engineering practices with organizational strategy to deliver business results
• Strong understanding of object oriented programming languages and modern software engineering concepts. Bonus points for functional programming experience.
• Have expertise with modern, large-scale distributed systems using AWS cloud native architectures
• Have experience with mobile and device development and internationalization
• Previous experience in an engineering leadership role within a highly regulated industry, ideally FinTech or other financial services working with institutional and retail products
• Proponent Agile software development methodologies who can champion adoption of best practices within the engineering organization
• Possess knowledge of security practices and systems required to manage sensitive personal data
• Passion for product excellence and experience working in organizations with strong collaboration between Engineering, Products, Design, Security, Operations, and other essential business functions
