Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable brand art director with games and interactive content experience to join our UP&E Team. This exciting role is responsible for visual guidance, ideation, and art guidelines for many of the most well-known entertainment bands in the NBCUniversal portfolio. This role will be supporting the team responsible for all video games, metaverse, Interactive content, NFT and Web 3 experiences.

The right candidate will bring industry-leading craft expertise, and attention to detail, and is driven by visual storytelling. This person should have a solid understanding of UI/UX, character development, and world-building and can translate these skills across various digital mediums using the latest industry tools. We are a technology-driven organization, and this candidate will be expected to incorporate proprietary toolsets and 3d scanning into their ideation stage to support the art pipelines.

This position will have daily collaboration with marketing, production, and external development teams and report to the Sr. Director of Creative in Universal’s Games and Digital Platforms group

Responsibilities Include

  • Lead art direction across multiple games and digital content in the NBCUniversal portfolio
  • Ensure games are visually beautiful, functional, performant, and “on-brand” for the IP
  • Act as the art expert who makes sure the finished game fulfills team, studio, and company goals
  • Present project concepts and artistic vision to the department
  • Manage the day-to-day partner process, providing hands-on feedback and concept ideation
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to facilitate well-planned and executed features
  • Develop strong relationships and partnerships with key business groups across the company including Production, Product Marketing, Franchise Management, Technology and Publishing
  • Initiate research and implementation of new techniques and processes to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of art production

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 7+ years experience leading 2D and 3D art on franchise game and interactive production teams, including shipped product—ideally from pre-production through launch and live ops
  • Shipped multiple AAA titles from established IP in a high-level art role. Experience in Mobile, VR, and AR is a plus.
  • Specific hands-on experience with mobile game UI/UX and technical art challenges
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Receptive to critique and feedback
  • Solid project management skills and excellent knowledge of various project management methodologies and practices
  • Strong process knowledge, attention to detail, organizational skills and timely follow-up with the ability to stay focused on art direction
  • Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring artists
  • Good cross-disciplinary communications experience between engineering, production, design, and art
  • Must have strong games market knowledge and work with the team on innovation and tool development
  • Must be career focused on video games with a solid understanding of theatrical content
  • Portfolio of professional design work (fully/largely created solely by the applicant, AI-generated art not accepted) that demonstrates character and environment development, UI/UX design, creativity, and art direction expertise.

Desired Characteristics

  • A degree from a four-year college, with a preference for an advanced degree
  • Existing ability to work hands-on implementing art in-game concept prototypes

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Salary range: $110,000 - $140,000 (bonus eligible)
