Web3 Construction engineer for Bitfury Data Centers (NAM, Remote)

Compensation: $54k - $90k estimated

Location: ON Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Position Summary

Construction engineer is responsible for potential data center (DC) sites assessment and initial data analysis, DC site engineering process supervision and construction management and supervision during full cycle of the project development; consulting and advising on construction methods and best practices of DC sites development, analysing potential or existing project risks and informing stakeholders of professional risk mitigation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Data center design:

  • Conduct on-site inspections (physical or remote) to determine project work packages, requirements and schedules;
  • Prepare preliminary site layouts, interact between third-party companies, clients and partners on behalf of Bitfury and other internal departments of Bitfury (R&D, IT, OPS).
  • Prepare planned survey reports, cost out surveys, establish priorities for accomplishment, develop and recommend budgets for inclusion in departmental or project budget;
  • Consult local engineering firms in civil/construction/electrical field. Participate In process of design or redesign of civil/structural, mechanical, thermal devices and preferably electrical equipment, using analysis and computer-aided design.
  • Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, electrics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
  • To develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components
  • Develop construction budget and timeline/schedule.
  • Review and accept deliverables, issued by engineering contractors.
  • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests that might arise during the process of DC site development.

Procurement:

  • Prepare technical specifications.
  • Search for local construction companies, participate RFQ/bidding process on construction service providers and goods suppliers as a subject matter expert;
  • Evaluate and analyze bids for General Contractor service, goods and materials supply;
  • Develop and make recommendations regarding contractors and suppliers selection;
  • Participate in goods and service acceptance.

Data Center construction:

  • Initiate and/or participate permitting procedures and obtain required permits necessary to build the data centers;
  • Define sequence of construction process;
  • Plan, direct, schedule, assign, and evaluate the work of assigned personnel or contractors, define most effective work sequence and schedule;
  • Consult on related projects with involved parties and assigned supervisory personnel; conduct on-site inspections to determine project work needs and schedules.
  • Develop and make recommendations regarding proposed alterations or new construction.
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Participate works acceptance and/or claim procedures with contractors.
  • Follow up and monitor construction budget and timeline against budgeted and initially scheduled.
  • Monitor construction work performance, quality and terms.
  • Monitor, document and mitigate project risks.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of general engineering – constructing, electrical (preferably), manufacturing or facility construction, repair and/or maintenance work at a management or exceptionally strong supervisory level with a large residential, industrial, or governmental entity is required.
  • Supervision experience is preferable;

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices, tools, equipment and materials used in accomplishing a wide variety of construction, repair, and maintenance work.
  • Standard practices and sequence of construction projects;
  • Permitting procedures from application to approval;
  • Current, most cost effective practices in the field.
  • Occupational health and safety practices and procedures.
  • General principles of supervision and training.

Ability to:

  • Plan, assign, and direct the work of others.
  • Train, develop, and evaluate employee skills in proper work methods.
  • Read and interpret plans, technical drawings and specifications.
  • Recognize and correct safety hazards.
  • Estimate labour and material costs.
  • Order supplies, tools and equipment.
  • Write specifications for contract work.
  • Understand financial impact of own segment of work on an entire project.
  • Remain current with technical developments in the trade, evaluate them, and make recommendations for changes.
  • Inspect sites, buildings, and equipment to determine maintenance repair needs.
  • Maintain and direct the keeping of work costs, plans and blueprints, and related records.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Prepare reports with findings, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Make presentations before groups to explain purpose and scope of projects and jobs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
