Parity Technologies is hiring a Web3 Director of Operations (m/f/d)
Location: BE Berlin, Berlin, Germany
Director of Operations
Every day we interact with technologies controlled by a handful of large companies whose interests and incentives often conflict with our own. If we want the benefits of using their proprietary apps, we’re forced to agree to terms that most of us will never read, granting these companies far-reaching control over our digital lives.
At the same time, progress in open-source and decentralised technologies like blockchain has shown that we can build systems that prioritise individual sovereignty over centralised control. With these new technologies, there’s no need to trust any third parties not to be or become evil.
Parity Technologies is a team of the world’s premiere blockchain developers building industry-leading technologies that enable developers to create this next wave of better products and services. You’ll join at a critical moment when the future of the decentralised web is being shaped, and perform an influential role in making a more equitable society for our future.
We primarily steward the Substrate ecosystem, which includes Polkadot and Kusama, next-generation sharded, multichain networks. Our flagship product, Substrate is an open-source, modular and extensible blockchain-building framework that allows rapid innovation and fast deployment of custom built blockchains. Substrate provides the core building blocks of blockchains built for deployment to Polkadot and Kusama. Our key programming language is Rust, and all of our work is open source.
We are looking for an exceptional leader to head our Operations efforts. Working in and leading a very successful Operations team, you will work with the executive team to support the scaling and development of Parity’s real-world operations and processes, and report to the VP Operations . Your focus lies on growing, supporting and developing the Operations team and operational excellence across the organisation as we expand globally.
Responsibilities
- Processes and Tools - to scale in both size and complexity while maintaining a culture of excellence and autonomy, we need to develop an operating structure and systems to support us. A key part of this is the tools and processes connecting teams, projects and workflows across our international teams. You will be responsible for supporting this operating structure and developing these systems.
- Project Management - you will help develop and implement project and program management best practice for coordinating decentralised teams and projects.
- Places and Events - we are remote first but aim to regularly bring teams together wherever safe and sensible to foster collaboration and creation. We do this through our growing offices in Berlin, Lisbon & London as well as regular retreats where teams come together in temporary spaces to work.
- Internal Communications - With a growing, remote-first workforce, many internal challenges can be boiled down to a lack of internal communication. Improving internal communication by implementing the right tools, processes, and culture will be critical to scaling our operation globally.
- Regional Operations - Designing interfaces and processes for regional Parity teams. Develop and implement an operating structure and playbook to internationalise our presence and reach.
- Budgeting, Forecasting, Reporting - As we grow, it is important to do so efficiently in time, energy and cost. This requires coherent budget management, forecasting, and reporting across the organisation and its operations.
- Strategic Projects - Increasingly, the Operations team is tackling larger strategic projects that require the collaboration of multiple internal and external teams. Such projects require a bird’s-eye view, strong project management skills, and a solid understanding of the organization’s high-level strategy.
Requirements:
- Scale-up experience in organisations >100 people
- 4+ International Operations Experience, 2+ years in a leadership role scaling and managing teams across regions
- Diverse stakeholder management experience
- Confident and structured communicator, comfortable with autonomy, driven by data
- Budgeting/P&L responsibility & management experience >€1M/year
Nice-to-haves:
- Open-source / decentralised org experience
Benefits:
- Because we value initiative and learning, we've defined a generous personal development budget for each employee
- We offer a very remote-friendly company setup (even before Corona!)
- You will have the option to work from our newly established work space in Lisbon
- Bringing the team together is something we value a lot, so we used to regularly go on team retreats and are planning to do so again, once the international health regulations allow it
