About the Team:
Fireblocks Trust Company, the regulated arm of Fireblocks, is looking for a Director of Technology to join the startup within the startup and help define the future of institutional crypto custody.
In this role, you’ll drive the development of our regulated custody platform, ensuring it’s not only secure and compliant but also scalable and future-proof. You’ll manage a team of dedicated and remote engineers, collaborating closely with Fireblocks Trust leadership, internal product and compliance teams to build the leading digital asset custodian. What You’ll Do:
- Work closely with Fireblocks Trust leadership to set the technology strategy and drive implementation
- Architect, design, and implement secure, scalable, and high-performance regulated custody solutions leveraging modern blockchain and cloud technologies.
- Write and review code when necessary to guide the engineering team on best practices, ensuring clean, maintainable, and well-documented codebase.
- Optimize platform performance, security, and reliability by implementing robust encryption, secure key management, and fault-tolerant architectures.
- Lead hands-on technical decision-making regarding blockchain integrations, custody infrastructure, and security protocols.
- Manage and lead an engineering-focused technology team, setting clear technical goals and fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Conduct technical deep dives, code reviews, and system architecture discussions to ensure alignment with best security practices.
- Collaborate closely with product, compliance, operations and regulatory teams to build solutions that meet evolving legal and security standards.
- Evaluate, select, and integrate third-party services or develop in-house solutions as needed to support the custody platform.
- Keep up with advancements in blockchain, cybersecurity, and financial regulations, integrating relevant innovations into the technology stack.
- Translate high-level business objectives into detailed engineering roadmaps, aligning teams and resources toward clearly defined outcomes.
- Establish and evolve engineering processes, tools, and workflows that support rapid development and high code quality.
- Play a key role in external discussions as a technical leader when needed.
What You’ll Bring:
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering and technology leadership roles, with a focus on security, blockchain, or fintech industries.
- Experience in a regulated financial environment, particularly in digital asset custody or trust services.
- Proven experience in building and managing remote engineering teams.
- Deep understanding of regulatory and compliance considerations in financial services and digital assets.
- Experience designing and scaling secure, high-availability platforms.
- Hands-on experience with modern programming languages and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Strong problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and ability to drive technical innovation.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully aligning technology with business objectives.
- Prior experience scaling an early-stage technology product within a startup or high-growth company.
- Bonus: experience working with HSMs, MPC, smart contracts, or other advanced crypto custody mechanisms.
