Web3 Electrical Engineer

DESCRIPTION: The Electrical Engineer is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and passionate individual to join the team at Foundry, a subsidiary of the blockchain industry’s most prolific and active investor, Digital Currency Group. Reporting to the Executive Director of Repair, the Electrical Engineer's primary responsibilities will be to diagnose Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) to the component level, identify root causes of failures, and implement effective solutions.

This is a rare invitation to join a small, highly professional entrepreneurial group, with the backing of the most established player in the fast-growing crypto space.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform PCB root cause analysis (RCA) diagnosis and repair: Conduct detailed analysis of faulty PCBs to identify root causes of failures, using appropriate diagnostic tools, equipment, and methodologies. Utilize your expertise in PCB layout, schematics, and electronic components to troubleshoot and repair PCBs to component level.
• Component-level repair: Identify faulty components on PCBs, such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, and integrated circuits, and replace them accurately. Utilize soldering and desoldering techniques to remove and replace components, ensuring proper connections and minimal impact on the overall PCB functionality.
• Testing and validation: Perform comprehensive functional testing and validation of repaired PCBs to ensure proper functionality and adherence to quality standards. Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other testing equipment to verify voltage levels, signal integrity, and overall performance of the PCB.
• Root cause analysis: Thoroughly investigate and document the root causes of PCB failures, including design flaws, manufacturing defects, environmental factors, or improper usage. Provide recommendations and implement corrective actions to prevent future failures and improve overall PCB reliability.
• Documentation and reporting: Maintain detailed records of PCB repairs, including diagnostic findings, repair steps, replaced components, and test results. Prepare accurate and comprehensive reports on RCA findings, repair actions, and recommendations for process or design improvements.
• Collaboration and communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to exchange information, share expertise, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. Effectively communicate technical concepts and repair processes to team members and stakeholders.
• Equipment maintenance and calibration: Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and cleanliness of diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and workstations. Keep abreast of the latest industry trends, advancements, and best practices in PCB diagnosis and repair techniques.
• Fundamental knowledge of embedded communication protocols - UART, I2C, etc. Ability to view and debug them from oscilloscope/logic analyzer captures.

Minimum Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:(Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications to qualify for the role)
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
• Proven experience in PCB RCA and repair, preferably in a manufacturing or repair environment. Strong knowledge of PCB layout, schematics, electronic components, and circuitry.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and soldering stations. Experience with automated testing equipment and software is desirable.
• Solid understanding of root cause analysis methodologies and techniques. Ability to apply logical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve complex PCB failures.
• Proficient soldering and desoldering skills, with attention to detail and precision. Familiarity with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) precautions and best practices.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with the capacity to analyze complex electrical systems and diagnose faults accurately. Detail-oriented with excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with team members, engineers, and stakeholders. Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
• Self-motivated and proactive approach to work, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Strong time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to PCB repair and electronics.
