The Opportunity

Solana Foundation is seeking a highly driven Data Engineer. The ideal candidate also has an acumen for inference, making sense of complex data and telling the correct story. At Solana Foundation we facilitate development across the ecosystem - the core protocol, infrastructure and apps. Making sense of this data will have a huge impact on the effectiveness of each release and inform apps how to best serve their customers. There are enormous possibilities for Solana to facilitate multiple trillion dollar financial industries like markets, payments, asset management. This role has the potential to grow along with the industry.

To be successful in this role

You will:

  • Collaborate with blockchain engineers to index blockchain data and create robust data pipelines

  • Efficiently parse and index a variety of data formats, ensuring high performance and low latency

  • Document technical processes and solutions to ensure knowledge sharing across the team.

  • Work with the Solana Improvement Document process to make sure updates are smooth and don’t see regressions during testing or in live environments

  • Help gather and formulate scores for informative metrics like decentralization scores, transaction inclusion performance, and economics.

You ideally have:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or related roles

  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and efficient data processing techniques

  • Hands-on experience with serialized data formats (e.g., Protobuf, Avro, JSON, MessagePack)

  • Familiarity with blockchain technologies, including transaction data, smart contracts, and consensus mechanisms

    • Especially beneficial if you have experience with Solana data and the Solana ecosystem

  • Experience with cryptographic methods

  • Proficient large-scale databases and pipelining (clickhouse, snowflake, bigquery and Kafka, Rabbit MQ, Pub/Sub)

  • Experience with distributed data systems and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

Bonus points:

  • Have contributed to open source projects

  • Proficiency in Rust
