NEAR is hiring a
Web3 Senior Core Engineer

Compensation: $80k - $105k estimated

Location: CA San Francisco, California, United States

About NEAR

NEAR Protocol is a developer-first blockchain that emphasizes convenience and speed of development on the NEAR platform while minimizing the entrance barrier for developers coming from the blockchain ecosystem, as well as regular web and mobile development space.

We are looking for a talented, meticulous, and productive person who loves working in an energetic and free-thinking environment, feels comfortable challenging opinions, and most importantly who shares with us the same desire to make the web free again.

We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply. NEAR is committed to creating an inclusive culture, and we celebrate diversity of all kinds.

About The Role:

The NEAR Protocol Engineering team is looking for an engineer to work on the protocol specification and its implementation in Rust. You will be working with complex concurrent systems, low-level code, complicated state machines, and novel algorithms.

You will be expected to fully own various components and drive their implementation from beginning to end, including the design, the implementation, the maintenance, and the documentation. You will be surrounded by highly productive and meticulous engineers who will be holding you to the same standards.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Serve as part of NEAR’s Protocol Engineering Team to work on blockchain protocol specification and its implementation in Rust, a fast and memory-safe programming language that powers performance-critical services.
  • Work with complex concurrent systems, primary (core) development code, ‘state-machine’ modeling, and novel algorithms to improve the design and implementation of the protocol.
  • Oversee various components of the protocol specification, including design, implementation, maintenance, and documentation.
  • Be involved with all phases of the protocol’s infrastructure buildup, including various server-less applications and ‘smart transactions’ powered by blockchain technology.
  • Contribute to the design process for NEAR’s blockchain protocol- applying and experimenting with the newest blockchain technologies, including blockchains, concurrent systems, cryptography, and virtual machines.
  • Implement code enhancements and critical ‘bug’ fixes for all core applications, and working cross-functionally to ensure all applications are engineered to technical and design specifications.
  • Participate in technical and design reviews with other Protocol Engineering Team members and collaborating on deploying the blockchain client utilizing DevOps tools, such as Ansible, Terraform, Grafana, and Prometheus.
  • Test the protocol implementation in Python by conducting large-scale tests involve hundreds of cloud-server machines.
  • Leverage the open-source community by collaborating with external contributors to improve our codebase.

What We're Looking For:

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related plus two (2) years of software engineering, algorithm development, or related experience: utilizing mathematical, computer assisted, and financial analytical techniques to develop predictive models; utilizing statistics, advance computer modeling, and quantitative analytical techniques; performing rigorous statistical analysis on vast quantities of data to produce computer-based predictive models; researching, developing, and testing novel order execution and model training methods to increase efficiency; utilizing predictive models to develop strategies; conducting live testing of predictive models; analyzing the performance and viability of computer models; documenting mathematical analyses and projections; researching and improving the machine learning pipeline; and working with data sampling, feature engineering, modeling, hyper-parameter tuning, simulation platforms, live A/B tests, Python, and C++.
