Ripple’s Database Engineering team manages distributed database platform infrastructure that enable banks to instantly settle cross-border payments to create the Internet of Value. The team partners with stakeholders across the company for cutting edge product development, business strategy, complex inter dependencies, high availability, security, performance, scalability, cost optimization requirements and customer servicing.
We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager focused on Database Engineering and Cloud Infrastructure who will own program management and project execution responsibilities for a number of high-priority initiatives in the RippleNet Engineering organization at Ripple. You will lead technical projects for the following: database design, manage large volumes of data, application release, enable data discovery, security, monitoring, and deliver highly available database platforms for our next generation applications. In this role, you’ll plan requirements, identify risks, manage schedules, and communicate clearly to help the engineering leaders and stakeholders make sound and data driven decisions. You will be accountable for various aspects of Program Management including: risk management, scoping requirement, communication, status reporting, and resource management.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Responsible for creation of database roadmaps and execution plans for complex, cross-organizational teams across all phases of planning, development, and production readiness and launch
- Drive large database initiatives in order to advance our ecosystem and deliver critical business outcomes with data driven decisions
- Responsible for on-time delivery of database projects for RippleNet and On-Demand Liquidity that have direct impact on the core technologies powering the organization to deliver amazing customer benefits
- Partner with program managers, product managers, and engineering managers to understand development priorities and drive alignment across multiple stakeholders with competing priorities
- Anticipate, recognize, and work through resistance or setbacks independently, work well with others when conflicts arise: see opportunities, ensure alignment with objectives, find common ground and promote understanding of alternative viewpoints before driving for closure and cooperation
- Ensure continued alignment of program scope, status, risks, and dependencies through effective communication across the organization and at all levels
- Operates as a subject matter expert for the database engineering team on topics related to planning, process, execution, reporting, stakeholder management, and goals attainment.
- Track status and impact metrics to effectively measure progress against goals and report out to stakeholders.
- Build a culture of operational excellence and focus on high quality delivery.
- Serve as a primary point of contact to quickly report on plan, progress, accomplishments, and concerns/risks/issues of ongoing projects in a program.
- Develop a sustained body of knowledge/artifacts/templates that can be leveraged to onboard new team members and operationalize programs at any stage.
- Lead efforts to determine, document and improve process improvements within the database engineering workflows
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- 5+ years of experience in technical program/product/engineering management for enterprise-class applications and/or complex software development initiatives focused on the data layer
- Proven understanding and working knowledge of the software development life cycle and modern project management best practices, such as Agile, Scrum, Six Sigma, etc.
- Understanding of PMBOK best-practices and processes including familiarity with Agile Scrum, Kanban methodologies.
- Ability to drive technical business requirements and scope, and ensure adherence to business requirements and architectural design.
- Demonstrated ability to simultaneously understand and communicate the bigger picture while diving in to understand issues and risks to drive rapid resolution
- Ability to coordinate cross-functionally, build consensus, and execute across teams. Able to influence without authority, negotiate and inspire others in a matrixed environment
- Excellent organizational and coordination skills along with multi-tasking capabilities to get things done in a fast-paced environment
- Outstanding communication skills appropriate for executive-level audiences; ability to structure and communicate goals of program, relationship to business goals, and other relevant success criteria
- Strong sense of responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work.
- Experience coordinating with geographically diverse teams.
- Proficiency with project management tools: JIRA, Smartsheet, Confluence, Google Sheets, etc.
- Enjoy working in a highly cross-functional, collaborative environment, building relationships, and achieving results without direct reporting relationships.
- Self-motivated individual with excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Exposure to launching products into production and maintaining live applications is highly desirable
- PMP and CSM are strongly considered.
