Our mission is to enable the development of thriving economies built on blockchain. We are a group of deeply technical people who specialize in computer science, math, engineering, economics, and finance. We believe that trust-based technologies will cause massive disruptions across all sectors of the current economy and we are building tools to accelerate that change.

We are an interdisciplinary team that focuses heavily on collaboration and curiosity. Because we are fully remote, we care more about output and outcomes than how much time is spent. We care more about doing things well than who gets the credit.

The research team at Thrackle aims to frame problems in DeFi in a rigorous manner and then to solve or make incremental progress with these problems using mathematics and simulations.  Workflows are aligned with the standard research process; the team works through market research, mechanism ingestion and data analysis (when relevant), and problem formulation.  Then, an iterative cycle between pen and paper mathematics and simulation building often occurs.  As the problems we tackle become more multivariate and stochastic (often without clear distributional assumptions), our need for robust simulation tooling has expanded as well.  The research engineer will work with researchers (with perhaps more domain or mathematical knowledge) at various stages of the aforementioned pipeline to determine how to build and extend our current simulation infrastructure.

Responsibilities

    • Develop and communicate a clear architectural vision for the simulation tool aligned with research goals
    • Ensure the implementation adheres to architectural principles, standards, and best practices
    • Collaborate with researchers and other stakeholders to understand research requirements, pushing for clarity on technical topics even when it is challenging
    • Evolve our current simulation framework to improve usability, scalability, and efficiency
    • Redesign the data pipelines used for simulation validation
    • Establish well-defined processes by which researchers can participate in the simulation tool development as appropriate.

Qualifications

    • 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or related role
    • Experience simulating complex protocols / processes
    • Knowledge of the agent based modeling (ABM) landscape in both software and mathematical contexts
    • Computer science background with an understanding of linear algebra, calculus and statistics (self-taught is fine)
    • Fluency in Python and potentially other programming languages
    • Data-analysis skills and comfort working with large datasets
    • Having spent (at least) six months being deeply confused about something technical and eventually figuring it out.  This often comes from doing graduate work in a technical field, but it is by no means necessary.
    • Comfortable with Github and Git
    • Blockchain Software development experience is a bonus
    • Familiarity with Solidity smart contracts is a bonus

Benefits

    • Competitive compensation package
    • Health insurance
    • Dental insurance
    • Vision insurance
    • 401k
    • Unlimited vacation time
    • 100% Remote (within US)
$120,000 - $250,000 a year
