Steel Perlot is a management company incubating, investing, and scaling companies in today’s most challenging technical industries. We are backed by several former FAANG CEOs, recognized technologists, and successful investors. Our various funds invest across various deeptech verticals in AI/ML, blockchain, lifesciences, etc and work together with leading universities, venture capital firms, research institutions, and national laboratories in order to develop both in-house products and support external projects.

We are currently searching for crypto researchers to help strategize roadmapping to drive decision and product making in order to lay the foundation of our crypto ecosystem.

Description

As a Crypto Researcher, you will work closely with executive level leadership to strategize design decisions to ensure the success of blockchain and crypto-incubated projects, and will get significant ownership over outcomes from day-one.

This is a one-year position (with the potential to extend) based in New York, NY with full-time salary and benefits. Researchers will be based in the office and may work remotely depending on the situation.

Key Responsibilities, Prioritized*:

1. Research and Reports

• Conduct and synthesize technical, market, and product research in relevant verticals, including but not limited, to: blockchain, finance, crypto, and various protocols.
• Produce technical reports and presentations, detailing key insights of technological, market, or other research and analyses, such as (1) Analyze modern research in both the macro and micro landscape, and software/hardware technical stack in relevant domain areas, (2) Conduct research and due diligence of selected investment opportunities, as applicable, and (3) Analyze different tokenomic mechanisms to help guide product decisions on trading strategies/products.
• With guidance from members of the team, research and collect documents and information from various sources, including corporations, individual contributors, government agencies, universities, libraries, academic publications, journals, think-tanks, non-profit organizations, on relevant topics in blockchain and crypto.
• Build products that will benefit the crypto community (think DeFi Pulse for example).

2. Operations and Networks

• Provide administrative and operational support for management.
• Perform a comprehensive landscape analysis of potential competitors, researchers, investors, experts, advisors, academics, technologists, and entrepreneurs, and other related professionals for product and focus areas.
• Strategize on technical recruiting based on technical product recommendations.
• Support expanding and sustaining relationships with individuals and organizations in the company network.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong technical literacy:

• Candidates must be fluent in various technical topics and have deep expertise in at least one focus area. The role will not involve coding, so detailed knowledge at the implementation level of engineering systems is unnecessary, but candidates will need to “know what they don’t know” and who to ask about it. (Example: Ability to follow the latest crypto or AI research developments and understand the potential use cases as well as how they work.)

High-level opportunity identification and curation:

• Candidates must have the strategic acumen to parse dense technical literature into actionable product insights and effectively tailor those recommendations to specific audiences.
  

Excellent communication and teamwork:

• Candidates must have a track record of excellent teamwork and a demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Comfort in ambiguous unstructured environments:

• Building something new comes with significant ambiguity, and we want people that can thrive in that ambiguity. The environment is highly dynamic, and there are no precedents.

Requirements

• Received/Completing a bachelor's degree in a technical field and proven excellence in work across academia, technology, finance, entrepreneurship or other fields.
• Be based at the office in New York and be able to travel within the U.S. and internationally on a regular basis as needed.
