Manages: Manager, Player Services
Position Summary: The Director, Player Development provides players with mentorship and education, outside of the sport of basketball. This position aims to create multiple player touch points to develop in meaningful ways, including creating learning opportunities while on the road to museums, art events, historical landmarks, etc.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities)
- Identify and assess player’s individual needs to understand how to best support their growth off the court
- Develop team-based curriculum based on player needs and interests
- Participate in planning process and meetings to discuss player progress and improvement plans
- Engage and provide resources for players' families and significant influencers
- Utilize League player development and associated League and external resources; represent team at League meetings
- Monitor sports industry news and player trends to keep abreast of developments within the industry that impact players to ensure team programming is relevant and timely
- Participate in regular Player Development/Professional Development activities
- Bachelor’s degree (required)
- Graduate degree (preferred)
- A minimum of six (6) years working with professional athletes or teams, that demanded high levels of organization, execution & time management
- A background in life skills coaching (preferred)
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Keep up-to-date with emerging tech trends (e.g. Financial apps, FaceTime)
- Demonstrated ability to act with the utmost discretion and professionalism
- A history of developing strong relationships with individuals who have various personalities and backgrounds
- Must work well with people at all levels of an organization
- A proven track record of making quality decisions in a fast-paced, stressful environment
- A background in developing people through educational events and programing
- Extremely resourceful
- Critical problem solving abilities
- Highly organized with an extreme attention to detail
Travel: Up to 50% of the time (~100+ days on the road)
