Web3 General Manager, Head of Institutions

The Institutions group at BlockFi plays a vital role in furthering this mission. As cryptocurrencies continue to expand the market and expand financial systems at a global scale, institutional investors need a place to discover, access, and exchange cryptocurrency. We are the most secure, reliable, and trusted crypto custodian, exchange, and prime broker for a diverse range of institutions. This will notably increase capital and liquidity within the industry, which will allow more people across the world to participate in the open financial system.

We are looking for a leader who will build and further scale our exceptional cross-functional team, which encompasses:

  • Institutional Client Sales
    • Including Private Client

  • Portfolio Management
    • Asset Management, Trading & Platforms
  • Structuring, Execution & Corporate Lending
    • New Product Development

You will spearhead our goal to make cryptocurrency accessible to professional traders, institutional investors, asset managers, corporations, and sovereign nations. Success will require strong collaboration and alignment with key internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of the team’s revenue and end to end success for the entire business line. This includes working collaboratively with the CFO to determine appropriate targets and measurements
  • Developing the future roadmap for growth and new products in alignment with the priorities of Finance, Risk and the General Manager of Retail
  • Deep understanding of the various asset classes such as equities, FX, commodities, equity derivatives and how to apply that knowledge to crypto and crypto related products to form revenue generating products for the firm
  • Subject matter expert on various uses of blockchain technology / cryptocurrency, inflection points on how it disrupts traditional finance, and subsequently where BlockFi should focus institutional efforts
  • Build new trading and lending crypto products that will be attractive to clients and profitable for BlockFi
  • Establish a competitive distribution strategy for current, new, and future institutional crypto products that retains, grows, and continues to bring in new clients
  • Drive the ongoing development of our crypto investment products, including the BlockFi Bitcoin Strategy ETF, a joint venture with the BlockFi trading team and Neuberger Berman
  • Deliver institutional-quality frameworks to provide understanding, analysis and evaluation when investing in crypto assets. E.g. development of an Index to show crypto value within portfolios for financial advisors, family offices, multi-family offices, hedge funds, and institutional investors
  • Lead and expand a cross-functional team that provides sales, trading, research, structuring & lending, and portfolio services to a global institutional client base
  • Set and achieve quarterly goals that measure the satisfaction of clients, revenue growth, health of the business, and happiness of the team
  • Represent BlockFi to institutional investors, financial service firms, U.S. regulators, and the cryptocurrency community
  • Partner with other internal groups and corporate functions to incorporate client feedback into the product development process
  • Develop objectives and key results (OKRs) to build and define the business strategy and plan, value proposition, and product roadmaps that take products from conception through launch and expansion
  • Take a data-driven approach to optimizing workflows, from the client experience to the tech, and drive vendor exploration and flow

About You:

  • 15+ years serving institutional clients in multiple functions such as sales, trading, research, client services, prime brokerage, and general management
  • Ability to introduce disruptive, new technologies to a global client base
  • Experience leading teams through various environments, including hyper-growth and dynamic market conditions
  • Experience working across one or more asset classes such as equities, FX, commodities, and equity derivatives
  • Strong relationship development, strategic analysis, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a demonstrated passion for the cryptocurrency market
  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating and driving alignment with senior and executive-level leadership
  • Proven track record of building scalable products from scratch
  • Data driven approach with strong analytical abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
  • You're a market expert. You've managed a desk or been a professional trader at a hedge fund, bank, or other financial institution. You have been an active market participant in crypto markets enhancements to maximize business
  • Creatively problem solve issues using traditional finance experience and crypto innovation to deliver an enhanced client experience
  • You're plugged into cryptocurrency markets and are familiar with the key entities in the ecosystem including market makers, hedge funds, liquidity providers and OTC & E-trading desks
