The Head of Compliance, will have overall responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of an effective Compliance Program for Bitso International, including policies and procedures, advice on impact of new regulations. The role will encompass Compliance advisory responsibilities, including subject matter expertise for example financial promotions, complaints handling, policies and procedures, systems and controls, governance and risk mitigation etc.

The Chief Compliance Officer.

Who You Are

  • 7 + years of experience in Compliance functions in regulated financial services firms
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish. You must be able to communicate seamlessly between our International offices and able to understand and explain the difference in regulatory environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial services regulations and good working understanding of retail/ institutional financial products.
  • Experience in developing and administering internal controls and processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of business functions, with an emphasis on senior management.
  • A professional compliance or finance qualification, and membership of a recognized professional body, would be advantageous but not a prerequisite.
  • Expertise - leader when it comes to regulatory knowledge
  • Leadership - voice concerns, challenge and help implement roadmaps
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced remote environment
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and execute strategies
  • Skilled at executing large, multi-functional and cross-organizational assignments that require in-depth analysis.
  • Ability to develop, foster and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people within the organization as well as with external stakeholders and vendors.
  • Leadership and key stakeholder engagement skills and experience required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the innate ability to work unsupervised in a structured manner.
  • Keen interest in digital currencies.
  • Related bachelor’s level degree required.

What You Will Do

  • Maintain all external Compliance relationships with: Regulators; Strategic partners; Industry working groups; and Third-party Compliance providers.
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of legal and regulatory developments, that could impact Bitso’s business and for rolling out necessary changes in a timely and cost-effective manner in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Carry out regular assessments of the adequacy of systems and controls to ensure that risks are managed effectively. Ensure that policies are updated to meet changing regulatory and business requirements.
  • Interpret the relevant requirements and regulations and be able to summarise concisely to brief the CCO. Liaise with other functional divisions to assist on projects to cover Compliance tasks such as documenting decisions and enhancing policies and procedures.
  • Review and approve recommendations on controls or processes required to comply with legislative/regulatory changes and best practice. Liaise with business and product teams as appropriate.
  • Manage and develop relationships with key internal stakeholders and senior management in order to promote a consistent approach to the development and execution of an effective and integrated control environment.
  • Oversee the design, development and roll-out of the Compliance Monitoring Programs
  • Track all relevant Internal Audit and External Audits.
  • Liaise with auditors and coordinate remediation projects
  • Oversee the Compliance Training programme
  • Proactively participate in internal committees and working groups.
  • Periodic key reporting and notifications both internally and externally as required.
  • Manage team of Team Leads, Investigators, and Analysts that execute investigations for SAR reporting, and review EDDs for regulatory requirements
  • Maintain and organize the structure of the Investigations team, including hiring and interviewing, and continually train and grow the existing members
  • Provide subject matter expertise on Compliance Investigations and Transaction Monitoring matters and initiatives for the company
  • Build out metrics, prepare and present periodic and ad-hoc reports for the CCO.
