We are seeking an outstanding compliance leader to join our fast-growing team as Head of Compliance for the UK and EMEA. This role, reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, will be responsible for overseeing compliance with the UK Money Laundering Regulations (acting as Money Laundering Reporting Officer) and other European regulatory regimes where applicable. WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Run the Compliance program like a machine. Oversee and enhance the compliance framework strategically, and ensure compliance with UK and EU laws, regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures systematically across Blockchain.com’s products end to end. Develop a leading crypto Compliance team.
- Own and maintain the UK & EMEA regulatory program's governance, operating model and processes across financial crimes prevention, markets regulatory and central compliance functions
- Own and deliver strategic cross-functional compliance and other initiatives, including scope, resourcing, and budget
- Act as UK Money Laundering Reporting Officer. Maintain a constructive and open dialogue with the FCA and any other appropriate authorities
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with business, engineering and operations partners
- Oversee compliance management of bank and vendor relationships focusing on fraud prevention and AML compliance in a rapid growth environment
- Oversee onboarding process as Compliance lead to ensure a systematic, risk based approach is implemented end to end
- Ensure that regulatory relationships, examinations, reporting and enquiries are handled appropriately and promptly
- Develop and support a diverse Compliance team to grow their capabilities and manage an effective and efficient regulatory framework
- Serve as the point person who ensures timely execution on audits
- Oversee testing and quality assurance of adherence to policies, procedures, requirements
- Oversee management information reporting for the board and management regarding effectiveness of the compliance risk management framework, oversee execution of improvement plans
- Oversee risk assessments and risk appetite statements plus metrics to measure performance
- Develop and track action plans across regulatory initiatives
- Oversee compliance training
- Maintain active dialogue with crypto compliance community to inform best practice
- Conduct investigations when needed with senior management
- Manage other assigned responsibilities
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in financial crimes compliance at a regulated financial institution or a consultancy firm
- Minimum of 5 years of team and people management experience
- Experience developing compliance frameworks while leveraging technology
- Markets and investment management compliance advantageous, not essential
- Excellent knowledge of UK money laundering regulations and the Fifth EU Anti Money Laundering Directive essential
- Experience working to improve onboarding processes integrated across front office and operations
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, organizational and time management skills
- Professional experience with cryptocurrencies is advantageous but not required.
- Professional certification (e.g., ACAMS, ICA) preferred.
