The Crypto Trading team is on a mission to build the world’s best crypto trading platform! We design, build, and maintain the services that power and accelerate our crypto products, platforms, and operations. Our team thrives on innovation, collaboration, and excellence, constantly evolving to stay ahead in the dynamic cryptocurrency space.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll shape our crypto architecture and lead technical strategy, implementation, and innovation. This is a high-impact role where you’ll drive reliability, scalability, and security across systems and help us deliver industry-leading products to our customers.

This role is based in our New York, NY office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you’ll do
● Lead technical architecture and system design for Robinhood’s crypto trading platform
● Partner with product to shape the roadmap and long-term vision
● Collaborate across engineering teams to implement scalable and secure systems
● Drive design reviews, lead complex projects, and own critical technical decisions
● Elevate engineering excellence through mentorship, best practices, and hands-on problem solving
● Optimize systems for performance, availability, and operational efficiency
● Support recruiting and onboarding of engineers to grow the team

What you bring
● 10+ years of software engineering experience
● Experience technically leading large-scale systems and complex projects
● Strong technical judgment, with a focus on reliability, security, and scalability
● Excellent collaboration and communication skills across engineering and product teams
● Ability to operate effectively in highly regulated or complex domains
● Passion for customer value and deep product engagement

Bonus points
● Experience with Python/Django, Golang, Postgres, Redis, Kafka
● Familiarity with financial systems or crypto trading infrastructure
● Knowledge of Kubernetes and AWS cloud architecture
