G/O Media is the publisher of the web’s most original media brands, including Gizmodo, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Deadspin, Jezebel, Jalopnik, The Root, The Onion, The Takeout and The A.V. Club, and reaches over 120 million unique visitors a month—more than one-third of all Americans. We connect with the young, diverse audiences that are shaping our future. Through fearless journalism, provoking comedy, and high-impact storytelling, we elevate the stories and issues our readers and viewers are passionate about.

About the Role:

Gizmodo is looking for a driven Staff Reporter to join our fast-paced newsroom. This position will focus on covering online communities and the changing structure of the Internet, from the emerging “metaverse,” to new blockchain-based social networks, and the Web3 evolution.

The ideal candidate for this position learns quickly on their feet, writes fast, clean copy, and has a growing list of sources in the tech world. They can write with authority about Facebook’s business plan as easily as they can explain why NFTs don’t belong in your 401k. They can smell hype and BS from a mile away, expertly parse press releases and PR statements with a critical eye, and have impeccable fact-checking skills. They know what makes a great story for Gizmodo, and can write for us with confidence and voice.

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience reporting tech news stories at a major print or digital publication.
  • A strong understanding of the major companies, issues, and reader-focused concerns across the technology world.
  • The ability to juggle sources and interviews while still getting out breaking news.
  • Knowledge of journalistic standards, laws, and best reporting practices.
  • A good sense of humor and a quick wit.

To apply, please submit a resume/cover letter about why you’re the right fit for the job and what beats you are most interested in covering.

G/O Media is deeply committed to fostering a transparently inclusive workplace environment, and people of color, women, people with disabilities, veterans, and LGBTQIA+ candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Our company-wide mission is to reach very diverse audiences, and so, we are deeply committed to having teams and leaders that reflect this mission.

This is a position covered under the collective bargaining agreement with the WGA-E.
