Senior Blockchain Engineer Substrate Core Development

Seneca’s vision is a world where every individual has the ability to exercise their liberty fully.

One of the bedrocks of freedom is the ability for people and institutional entities to interact with confidence in the authenticity of each transaction - and the transactor behind it. This is why we are building an infrastructure that offers privacy, trust, and user control of data to enable data-rich applications and bring the remaining 99.9% of the global transactions on-chain.

Seneca is a public and decentralized blockchain platform that executes transactions privately by default, with built-in data validation and smart contract services to facilitate end-to-end business processes where applications can store, process, and share data with trust. Optimized for real-world use, we are the first to leverage more than a decade of learning to architect a hybrid ledger that is secure, high throughput, and privacy-preserving at once. By creating the system and tools for a new generation of products and services that prioritize privacy and individual autonomy, our ultimate goal is to offer a path towards using technology in a way that aligns with human values rather than subsumes them.

The Role

We are looking for a senior Blockchain Core Developer to join our team. We are building on the Substrate framework, so expertise in – and passion for – the relevant tech stack is key. You will be deeply involved at all stages of the development lifecycle for the Seneca platform, with a focus on new technology engineering and optimisation.

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Build and customize new protocol features in Rust
  • Develop new distributed systems tests and frameworks
  • Contribute to protocol and design specifications, as well as more generally our long-term technical and product strategy
  • Work with members of the community to resolve issues, generate new ideas, and source additional contributors

We are tackling some extremely complex problems, which will put to good use your formidable skills and imagination in creating solutions that others have not seen before.

You are a systems-oriented engineer with deep knowledge of Layer 1 protocols and a passion for blockchain technologies. You enjoy working to a high standard with urgency, and you write code that is clean, efficient, and maintainable. While you can quickly develop working prototypes for new techniques and specifications, you also appreciate the importance of careful design choices and leverage a deep bench of experience to anticipate the impact of code changes on wider system behavior. Ideally, you’re active in the community with a genuine love for building new things that you can demonstrate through open source contributions that you can highlight. You express yourself clearly in writing and in discussions.

You also have:

  • 5+ years of experience in Web3 development, with
    • 2+ years of experience with Substrate
    • 3+ years of experience with RUST. Very strong programming skills in a low-level language such as C++ or Go may be considered in combination with less advanced RUST experience
  • Hands-on experience with network, concurrent, and distributed programming/debugging
  • Expert knowledge and credible hands-on implementation experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Communication and exchange protocols between interconnected systems; P2P messaging
    • BlockSec engineering, with practical experience implementing advanced cryptographic technologies in commercial products or setting. Experience shipping commercial products with Intel SGX is a major plus
    • Private smart contract programming using RUST and Web3 APIs

We are headquartered in Miami, FL, and will give preference to candidates who can be based locally (whether now or willing to relocate).
