Enoda Ltd is hiring a
Blockchain Engineer

Compensation: $54k - $77k estimated

Location: Scotland Edinburgh United Kingdom

We are looking for a Blockchain Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team in Edinburgh.

You will lead the application of software development for the efficient and secure coordination of resources and services in critical systems and infrastructure.

It is our intention to apply best practice computer science to data-driven distributed technology for energy systems, including power and hydrogen fuels systems.

Who we are

Enoda was founded to revolutionise electricity distribution technology. Our mission is to deliver a balanced electricity system with our range of novel integrated hardware and software products and services, which enable a full platform for the energy transition to net zero.

Energy is the primary input to everything we do. Our continued prosperity is dependent on reliable, affordable - and now clean - electricity. Balancing the ongoing tension between reliable, affordable, and clean electricity is what Enoda seek to achieve.

To address the key hurdles to net zero, Enoda brings together a combination of sophisticated control and hardware designs with its Prime technology and HERA industrial installations, providing an end-to-end solution for grid stability, and the decarbonisation of combined heat and power (CHP) at the lowest marginal economic, environmental, and social cost.

You'll spend your time

  • Completing sophisticated conceptual design based on functional and non-functional requirements
  • Undertaking scientific research and data acquisition to inform design pathway opportunities
  • Identifying areas to improve user and stakeholder experience, contributing to design resolutions
  • Developing optimal systems for the coordination of distributed heterogenous energy systems
  • Scoping and designing distributed coordination for the optimal allocation of resources in the energy economy
  • Using advanced mathematical technics such as feature selection, clustering, classification, regression to development of quantification, assessment, and management of delivery risk for the resources connected to distribution systems
  • Using simulation tools to produce high-fidelity dynamic models of energy systems, to aid design, and substantiate economic value, as well as forecast system and device behaviour
  • Analysing test data and iterate design schematics for improvement

The key experience we're looking for

  • Familiarity with the state-of-the-art academic literature on the subject and demonstrable practical knowledge of engineering successful peer-to-peer systems
  • Advanced systematic and logical problem-solving skills
  • Experience in the low-level implementation and protocol details for widely deployed public blockchains
  • Strong background in security-oriented system design, with a focus on applied cryptography
  • Understanding of Byzantine Fault Tolerance
  • Able to identify and defend against plausible protocol-level and network-level attacks on the system
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate complex ideas and the relevance and significance of new knowledge
  • Highly proficient in OOP programming languages including but not limited to Rust, JavaScript, C#, C++, R, Python, as well as MATLAB
  • MSc/PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning/Data Science or equivalent degree
  • 5+ years experience in a related commercial field or equivalent academic career

Experience with the Ethereum blockchain in particular would be a strong advantage. Experience in the energy industry would also be advantageous but is not critical.

We would love to speak with open-minded and rational thinkers who can demonstrate a strong sense of personal accountability and reliability from their previous roles.

What we offer

  • Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 dependent on skills & experience
  • A competitive incentives scheme reflecting your contribution to the business
  • A flexible pension policy tailored to your requirements
  • A balanced workday that allows you time to enjoy some outside thinking space

We are a mission-driven organisation committed to enabling humanity to prosper on 100% renewable energy. We are averse to introducing bureaucracy and are building a working culture that enables us to achieve our purpose and change the world.

Equal opportunity statement

We are a values-led business and alignment with, and defending our values is critical to successful long-term relationships with colleagues, commercial partners and customers.

As an equal-opportunity employer, we're committed to creating an environment which engenders equality, diversity and inclusion. We actively encourage applicants from all protected characteristics and commit to providing any reasonable adjustments required during the application and assessment stages and upon joining Enoda. This is integral to our mission of providing sustainable prosperity for everyone.
