The team

Our global Compliance team is redefining how compliance should be done - we challenge the norms and practices of the incumbent industry participants to identify ways to make Compliance at Kraken a competitive advantage. Our teams navigate the regulatory uncertainty and changing policy positions of global regulators and governments to help chart a path that ensures Kraken is successful in a truly dynamic industry.

The KYC Operations team is part of Compliance and is responsible for overseeing customer due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) processes. The Enhanced Due Diligence Compliance Associate role is responsible for conducting in-depth investigations into individuals and entities part of the high-risk client population. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, with experience in international know your customer (KYC) requirements, client onboarding, and client risk assessments.

The opportunity

  • Conduct thorough, written investigations of high-risk clients, including gathering and analyzing financial documents, source of wealth/source of funds, business activities, and beneficial ownership structures. Identify potential risks and ultimately make recommendations to approve or exit the relationship. 

  • Use various research tools and OSINT to assess potential red flags and identify potentially suspicious activity for closure / referral to risk partners.

  • Prepare detailed investigation reports summarizing findings, risk assessments, and recommendations.

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for Client Engagement teams on EDD-related matters to support a positive client experience.

Skills you should HODL 

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.

  • 1–3 years experience in a compliance role at a cryptocurrency exchange, financial institution, or equivalent.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and between multiple teams.

  • Excellent analytical/problem solving, verbal and written communication, and organization skills

  • Acts independently to analyze a client’s risk factors.

Nice-to-Haves

  • CAMS certification

  • Understanding of AML/KYC regulations and best practices

  • Prior crypto industry/product experience
