Flipside is seeking a Director for our Data Science team to be a player/coach that will manage our crew of amazing Data Scientists, help translate our business strategy into data science initiatives, set priorities, manage and participate in execution. You will help define project goals, prioritize tasks, coordinate resources, document requirements, and track & report progress. You will be hands-on in the data science that the team performs. This role plays a critical part in our operation and will help to accelerate the growth of our community-enabled analytics offering.

Flipside enables blockchain communities to develop analytics on behalf of the protocols they support. The ideal candidate needs to have a passion for the blockchain/crypto space.

Responsibilities

• In partnership with the Chief Data Scientist, translate long-term business strategy into quarterly goals for the Data Science team
• Apply the latest approaches and techniques to massive blockchain datasets with the goal of identifying patterns and contributing to our growing base of models that help demystify and simplify blockchain data for our partners and the community
• Lead the development of best practices for model implementation and code productionalization for the data science team
• Work as a member of the data science team to bring prototypes and statistical models into the product, including some coding, research, and analysis work of your own
• Prioritize tasks, assign resources, monitor and report on progress on Data Science initiatives
• Mentor and grow our team of data scientists as they develop their skills and expertise
• Provide professional development opportunities and career development for our team of data scientists
• Partner with our Data Analytics, Engineering and Product teams to collaborate on cross-functional projects, ensure we are building the right tools to solve the problems the business is tackling, and drive best practices in development and deployment of data products
• Partner with our Marketing and Community Management teams to support our community of crypto analysts and external communication

Requirements

• Demonstrated history of leadership and full-cycle ownership of high impact data science projects, from model conceptualization to iterative implementation
• 5+ years of experience working on data science teams, 2+ years in a management role
• Have a foundation in computer science, mathematics, statistics (or related field) and love reading up on the latest ML, AI, and network analysis developments
• You have worked deeply with R, whether currently or in the past, and you are also comfortable with Python
• Experience working in a cross-functional environment coordinating with multiple teams
• Skills to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
• Crypto or blockchain experience is a big bonus - but not required
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
