Web3 DeFi Risk Engineer

We are toogeza, a Ukrainian recruiting company that is focused on hiring talents and building teams for tech startups worldwide.

We’re currently supporting Veris Ventures — an investment firm backing early-stage teams building more efficient, trust-minimized systems with blockchain — in the search for a DeFi Risk Engineer.

This role calls for someone who combines strong engineering skills with deep protocol knowledge and security expertise. It’s a high-impact position that directly influences portfolio decisions, risk exposure, and the technical infrastructure behind the firm’s investment process.

RESPONSABILITIES

Build & maintain on-chain monitoring systems:

• Own the full technical risk-management lifecycle of the positions: detection → alerting → interpretation → response

• Integrate, configure, and maintain Hypernative, Blockaid, Forta and other monitoring frameworks

• Write custom risk detectors and responses for: exploit patterns, abnormal contract behaviors, oracle manipulation, pool imbalances, liquidity shifts, and others

• Build automated alerts for collateral risk, protocol outages, governance activity, upgrades, and yield deviations

• Develop scripts to continuously track position health (LTV, borrow limits, concentration checks)

• Establish real-time monitoring pipelines that feed directly into PM decision-making

Lead technical due diligence and protocol underwriting :

• Produce structured technical risk assessments that determine whether the fund deploys, sizes up, sizes down, or avoids investment opportunities

• Read and interpret smart contracts, audits, threat models, and codebases

• Evaluate protocol mechanism design: oracle frameworks, liquidation engines, interest models, collateral factors

• Identify and articulate risk vectors across smart-contract, economic, governance, and operational layers

• Liaise with external technical partners of the firm i.e. auditors,researchers, and others

• Maintain a live internal database of protocol risks, dependencies, and health indicators

Develop key supporting systems for investment decision-making:

• Build and support internal dashboards (Python/Node + Streamlit/Dash/Grafana) for real-time exposure, risk, yields

• Build data pipelines pulling from smart-contract calls (RPC/multicall), subgraphs, protocol APIs, and oracle feeds

• Implement reconciliation tools, transaction tracking, and position-classification systems

• Maintain time-series storage for protocol-level and portfolio-level analytics

• Maintain clean, reliable, and well-structured codebases for all technical systems

REQUIREMENTS

• 4-5+ years in DeFi security, protocol analysis, or smart-contract auditing.

• Strong ability to read Solidity (Rust is a plus).

• Understanding of key exploit patterns: oracle manipulation, MEV/sandwich attacks, liquidity issues, governance/upgrade risks.

• Experience working with audits, threat models, and protocol codebases.

• Hands-on experience writing monitoring scripts (Python or TypeScript).

• Familiarity with RPC/multicall, event logs, subgraphs, and protocol APIs.

• Experience building or maintaining risk monitors, bots, dashboards, or other on-chain tools.

• Solid understanding of DeFi primitives: lending, AMMs, liquid staking, collateral and liquidation mechanics, oracles.

• Knowledge of how protocols behave under stress: liquidations, liquidity shocks, oracle failures.

• Ability to evaluate protocol design, invariants, privileges, and upgrade patterns.

• Ability to produce clear, structured risk assessments and actionable recommendations.

• Ownership mindset with capacity to maintain technical systems end-to-end.
