Senior Revenue and Technical Accountant
Ripple is seeking a collaborative and critical thinking individual to join our growing accounting team. As the Senior Revenue and Technical Accountant, you will be primarily responsible for the accurate reporting and analysis of revenue recognition, and participate in researching other technical accounting matters. This role will drive the revenue general ledger process to ensure timely and accurate close of all revenue-related accounts. You will liaise with cross-functional teams to advise on deal structures from a revenue accounting perspective before contract execution. You will prepare technical revenue accounting memos on any new product offerings, and maintain the current revenue accounting policy to ensure it stays relevant and current. In addition to the revenue accounting responsibilities, this role will be involved in addressing other challenging technical accounting issues as they arise and participate in the financial reporting process. This role will be reporting to the Manager of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting.
The ideal candidate has experience with ASC 606 and general technical accounting research, excellent attention to detail, enjoys working in a dynamic environment and being challenged. Another key ingredient to success for this role is to have a genuine interest to learn more about the blockchain industry and the digital asset ecosystem.
What you'll do:
- Own the GL function for revenue, deferred contract costs and deferred revenue sections. Ensure an accurate book of records, record monthly revenue journal entries, timely reconciliations at each month-end. Maintain ownership of revenue recognition management software.
- Manage revenue recognition policy for all revenue streams, prepare revenue checklists for new deals, and perform analysis and provide insights, such as on SSP, rebates, etc.
- Interact with cross-functional teams within Ripple to partner and participating in advising on new contemplated deals/products from a revenue accounting perspective
- Perform technical analysis on new revenue matters, and prepare the corresponding accounting memos
- Prepare internal leadership reporting, monthly decks, handle cross-function inquiries.
- Document and execute internal control processes in relation to the revenue cycle, including continuous ownership and improvement of our revenue software
- Participate in internal and external reporting processes including the preparation of supporting schedules and disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP (and IFRS when applicable)
- Apply problem-solving skills to perform research and analysis on other complex/non-routine transactions, propose solutions and document conclusions
- Opportunity to research on arrangements involving digital assets (including XRP), or other contractual arrangements unique to the crypto industry
What we’re looking for:
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a public accounting setting of Big 4 or equivalent.
- Prior experience in revenue (ASC 606) and general technical accounting research.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent is required. CPA is preferred.
- Ability to clearly and concisely document and effectively communicate complex accounting and reporting issues to finance and non-finance personnel
- Strong work ethic and ability to be productive and successful in a fast-paced environment
- Possess a genuine interest to learn about cryptocurrency and blockchain
- Exceptional attention to detail with ability to identify issues, propose solutions to non-standard situations and suggest improvements
- Prior experience with risk assessment and control documentation
- Experience with revenue systems (such as Softrax) is a plus.
